Unless you're talkin about a different Silver Lake, it's about 140 miles from June Lake. With all the other lakes over there by Bridgeport, why drive all that ways. I'm not sayin don't, just wondering what Silver has that makes it that special?

Check out silverlakeresort.net. Went there a few years back. In restaurant on wall they had Trophy fish. One was a 17# plus rainbow. But it was so windy never got a bite. See you're from Lincoln, I was born and raised in Placerville. Small world.

Nice place. I go up through there to get to Ice House, Loon, Girle Creek and parts east. Just waiting for the snow to melt and the trout opener, and I'm heading up.

Each year my brother runs an outing up by loon lake, it is in a meadow below Loon. It is known as Stone Cellar campground, really enjoyable.

What you have now is good. I wouldn’t go heavier than 4 lb test. 2lb test is my preference.
For more distance get an longer rod, 6-1/2 to 7pm ultra light rod.
Bass Pro Shops has a nice graphite series and relatively inexpensive.

Before you get to June Lake stop in Big Pine. Turn left at the gas stations and go the Baker Creek Campgroud. There are nice stocked streams and a couple of ponds. We have always caught rainbows in the ponds, stocked 12". In the creeks you will get small browns and decent rainbows. Its free to fish there and a beautiful campground to stay at. We go up there at least once a year. Further north in Toms Place turn right and go to Tuff Campground. You have to walk in to just fish but a beautiful campground with a nice level stream, not like the campgrounds to the left at Toms Place.

Stop at Big Pine, turn left at the light, 1 or 2 streets maybe (they both work), go right at the park and left into Baker Creek campgroud. No fee during the day
There are 2 ponds with trout or the upper creek has alot of trout, stockers and larger.

Try Tuff campgroud, right at Tom's Place. Rock Creek is level and wide nice place
Camp here too, space #22 is the best.
compared to turning left and going to upper campgrounds and lake
June should be nice.
