And my 46 year old stepson is having a pool party next door as I read this post. At least 8 people over there. Told him to stay away from my house.

If you know who you are near, who has been near them and find no one is at risk, it is not that big a deal. We won't be going near our eldest son for a while; he was working (union carpenter) in Manhattan until a few days ago. He doesn't think he's been exposed, but can't be 100% sure, so we'll just talk, text and skype for awhile.

I had the good fortune to ride a Korean destroyer (recycled U.S. wii tin can) from Chin Hae to Inchon during a nasty storm. We were bobbing around like a cork out there, I didn't see the screws coming out of the water but I could hear them. Had to go up to the radio shack on the 02 level and the Korean "sailors" had puked Kim Chee all over it. Welcome to Korea.

My best buddy was a radioman on the DD 721 William Rush out of Charleston. Got caught in a huge storm and they were escorting a Midway class carrier across the Atlantic. He says he distinctly recalls seeing all four screws on the carrier out of the water at one time. Must have been one hell of a storm especially on a tin can!

I know this thread is going in two different directions.
During the storm the stern would come out of the water as the ship would drop into a trough between the swells and you could hear the engines rev up all over the ship as the screws came out of the water.
Food would run out pretty fast on the ship, then it was powdered eggs, milk, etc. When the powdered milk would run out we had Pillsbury funny face drinks, it's like kool-aid. Choo choo cherry and loudmouth lime, plus others that I can't remember. We had someone get injured at sea one time and they high-lined him to another ship. While we were hooked up they high-lined fresh food over to us.

"While we were hooked up they high-lined fresh food over to us."

One of our tasks on the Cuban Missile Crisis blockade was at-sea replenishment of fresh food for some of the smaller ships. Been there, done that!

When telling current generations about "duck & cover" they sometimes chuckle & roll their eyes - like maybe I'm making it up

We were a sub hunter. We had ASROC on board, anti sub rockets.
We were on patrol around Cuba.
Sometimes we would be running side by side with the Russians.

Once or twice we rigged for rough water that I recall , always in the North Atlantic while qualifing the gyrines flying their Phantoms , lol,, those guys were real jockeys, always ended with a flyby of the tower pissin air ops in the tower off mightily. But back to the water, yeah that sounded like rough water. Nimitz displaced 95000 tons, take very heavy water to push it around

Maybe you should dig up some
of those old Warner Brothers
'propaganda' and training cartoons, like 'Daffy the Commando', 'the Ductators', or maybe some Private SNAFU training films ! Maybe something more relevant to the 50s and the cold war in that era, like the so-called 'instructional' movies like 'Duck and Cover' or 'Red
Nightmare' ! If they didn't live through it,they're not likely to
take it seriously unless they're shown what it was like ! You
can still find most of those on
the internet ! Hell, you can watch
'em for your own amusement; they're a damn sight funnier
than the new Warners Brothers stuff that's been white-washed
by all this PC crap ! They've
taken all the fun out of the
funnies ! If you want a GOOD laugh, dig up those 'oldie but goodies' from the 40s, 50s and 60s, before the PCers ruined it
all for everyone !
