Rochester N.Y.
Hello, my name is Brian Leffler. I live in Fairport by the Erie (Barge) canal. It's a suburb of Rochester N.Y. Anyone out there have any recommendations for best way to fish the water here? I'm new and just retired so I'll be spending sometime out once the weather warms up here...maybe by the end of May???
Hi Brian, welcome tp the fishing stage. Will you please put your location into your profile? There are a few of us on here from out in your direction and they will be more than happy to help you out, but you need to let us know by your profile where you're at so we don't have to ask each time you post? What you want to fish for there in Rochester? Let us know. And so you know, we love pictures.

Welcome to the Forum, Brian. I was in Rochester, NY. 50 years ago. We wrestled RIT, beat them bad, but can't remember much other than that. If they have some piers I would take a walk out on them and talk to the locals, see what they are doing and using and how they are using it. Rigs, etc. Where ever you see some fishermen stop ad talk to them. Stop at a bait shop and see what they have to say. There must be a local fishing forum, join that and ask questions. We have members from NY. but I don't know if they are from the Rochester area. Good Luck!
I use to live in that area a lot of lakes like Seneca and Cayuga. Great fishing jut got bullheads in the canal would not eat anything out of that water bad contamination

I live in near Warsaw, NY in the summer. A good lake south of Rochester is Honeoye. I think you can take route 15 south and get close to it. The lake is good for bass, walleye, pickerel, and pan fish. The south end of the lake has a great boat ramp provided by NY state.
I have fished that lake for many years and love it. I usually fish for walleye by trolling slowly with a worm harness and always get some kind of fish. Good luck.
