Browns and Smallmouth within an hour (Northeast US)?
Hoping to get some help here.
I'm looking into moving northeast (in due time) and my hope is to be able to catch smallmouth and browns relatively close to one another. PA is a major option at the moment, but I have no idea what cities would allow me to catch both without having to travel too far.
Any city names would be appreciated, including VA, WV, MD, NY, etc.
Of course this is just one of the many steps involved in moving, there's a lot more to go into, but pursuing my passion of fly fishing is the main reason I'd like to go.
TIA!

Philly has smallies and lmb within the city limits. Trout are stocked in local streams. We have wild trout about 45 min outside the city.
Check out extreme philly fishing on YouTube. He catches all sorts of fish around here.

I used to live in Baltimore. There are several good streams and rivers within 30 minutes and a little over an hour away from good fishing in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Charlottesville, VA. Even though you can’t call VA the northeast you have both browns and smallmouth within city limits. Stunning town, forward and convenient but safe with considerably low crime. Right outside of a National Park with nearly unlimited hiking and fishing opportunities, still less than 3 hours from the beach, only one from the nation’s capital, and UVA brings in major entertainment acts routinely.

I have definitely considered VA in my list, even though it's not quite as north. PA and VA are my two major considerations, though I think I would easily find a way to be happy in either state.
My mom visited VA many years ago and even as a kid I loved looking at the pictures she brought back. Always thought it was a beautiful state.
I'll take a look into Charlottesville, thank you!

Take a look, it’s usually in the top ten of best places to live and I just went back and checked myself that it won in 2005. But I’m a big Virginia homer anyways - unfortunately my mountains are only a weekend destination now that I’m in Va Beach.

Northwest Pa is loaded with smallmouth bass and lots of streams with brown trout. Allegheny river from Kinzua dam down to Warren Pa ( about 12 miles?) is trophy trout water (big browns). Also bass ,walleyes and musky.

Lake Oneida and the Pulaski River area of NY will satisfy all of your smallmouth and trout needs.

Yes you have the Susquehanna River which is noted for it's smallmouths and is also good for catfish. The area also has all kinds of trout fishing opportunities. Another plus is that it's a lot nicer area than Philly.
Consider Syracuse n.y. Ontario, finger lakes and Oneida all within one hour. Salmon and steelhead an added bonus.
I live in pa,if ur satisfied catching stock trout,we have a lot of lake & stream fishing,i dont enjoy that,so i go to finger lakes in ny.Keuka lake has it all , brownies, lakers & 5 lb smallies r very common
