Seen this on a news article. 37.65 pounds, over 40 inches and a girth of 27 inches . Ice fishing in New Hampshire on Big Diamond pond. It's a monster. They figure it's between 50 and 60 yrs old.
I'm gonna be my nick-picky old self and say that that is not a trout. It's a char that goes by the name of "lake trout" or if you're in California "Mackinaw". Whatever it is, it is one nice fish!

Yeah, agree. Web says it’s state record lake trout which is a char. Brook trout also in the char family. Wonder how he got that pig thru the ice.

It sure is an ugly looking thing, if he is going to mount it he had better get a good artist to detail it. Thanks for sharing, Rob.
All I can say is in my dreams, maybe I'll get lucky some day.
Although Lake Trout are in the Char family, this giant is not a Lake Trout--it is a CHAR! It does not have Lake Trout markings. Being from northern Canada, I have caught many Lake Trout and Char. Char were successfully trans-planted to many north-eastern states. It's unfortunate that you kept this "monster", as these big fish are the BEST breeders! i do not think it will taste that good either--big Char such as this have a very coarse taste--better to smoke it if your going to eat it.

Check out Michigan state record for lake trout, 60 lbs. Only get that big in lake Superior.

do you use a derrick to haul them out?
Too bad he didn't just shoot it and let it go it's gotta be a great breeder
Yes, it would have been a GREAT breeder............but that WON'T happen now! Some people value trophies more than than the fish species! That fish should have been released--a mount can ALWAYS be constructed from a photo!
