Hello everyone I was just thinking, what’s the best rod and reel money can buy. I don’t plan on purchasing these,(unless I win the lottery) I just wanted to hear y’all’s opinions.

Spinning reel? Baitcaster? Salt or fresh? Fly or conventional? And what are you trying to catch? Questions questions. You're going to get a lot of answers and opinions. How about this - the best rod I've ever used was a cane pole with a bobber and a worm and no reel at all, fishing with my granddad for bluegills when I was about 5 years old. Can't buy that for any amount of money.
I know, that's not what you're asking. A St. Croix Legend Elite rod with a Shimano Stella reel. That's about 13 or 14 hundred dollars worth of equipment and would be hard to beat for a spinning set up.

Your favorite is the best ever made...for you.

I'm a guitar-playing musician and I quit giving gear advice in such a form. People ask me the most important gear and I wriggle my fingers. Same with fishing. Gear is tools. Fish are the music. So I give the same advice - "Here's what I use." That way I'm not dissing their gear (hey none of my gear is even CLOSE to the top of the line and I use ONLY Daiwa). You don't play the paint.

I think a lot people ask for advice so they can blame the adviser in their minds if it doesn't work out.

One of the many reasons I stopped giving gear advice.

"Doesn't catch fish for me!!!"

"Keep practicing." Applies to music or fishing.

I know you're a guitar player, but have you ever played a Steinway? To a point, you don't play the paint.

No, but I've seen one from the 19th century. It was indeed, amazing. Never heard a boogie played better than on a Steinway. But you're comparing apples and coffee pots.

Well ok, I'm not a guitar player, but I have played around on them, so let's compare a Martin to a 50 dollar special from Amazon. You can get music out of either one. Same with the Steinway. You just lay your fingers on those keys and that thing purrs. You kinda have to force it out of a Baldwin. You know what I'm talkin about. So I'm kinda picking a bone with you. If someone asked you what the best acoustic guitar money can buy is, you'd most likely tell them that you don't give advise like that. Fine. But you probably would stear them away from the 50 dollar special if you were to recommend one. Like I said, to a POINT you don't play the paint.

I don't play either. All would just be racket that sounds the same. $ or $$$$.
I think that asking opinions is useless . Opinions and A$$ holes. Everybody has one and I don't trust someone else's to work for me.

Y not ask then? Doesn't hurt to ask. No such thing as a stupid question. The only dumb qyuestion is the one not asked. You think Banks F Life's question is useless? Why are you even on this forum if you don't want other people's opinions? You're right, everybody's got one. Sorry if you don't get the musical analogy because you don't play an instrument, but I was addressing my comments to someone who does. I guess maybe I should have PM'd him.
