Howdya do it? I figure noisy topwaters on moonlit nights would be best, but haven't had much luck

Yes! Whopper popper during the summer! Try it you won’t regret it!

Top water frogs. Especially if there’s lily pads around.

Like mentioned above, top water frogs and plopper, if they aren’t biting on that I liked to throw something that imitates a frog underwater. My go to is called a cowboy. Yamamoto makes them. Worked like a charm last summer.

In addition to what's been said, a black/blue chatterbait has been one of my best producers night fishing for bass.

A black and blue jig with a rattle is a good bet as well.

I have heard a black buzz bait is the ticket. I could be wrong. Someone here may be able to speak more to it.

Hell, ya! That's what got me started bass fishing (right after the last ice age finished up). Split-tail black jitterbugs (most fun), buzzbaits, black spinnerbait with a single colorado blade and trailer hook (most effective). The guy I fished with swore by a 10" segmented plastic worm (he had a #7-10 on it, so I guess). Most of the action will be in the first couple hours after sundown. Wait for the spawn to be over where you are. Ideal waters have relatively little shallow cover. Lakes that get a lot of rec boaters are good too, as the fish have less daytime feeding opportunities.

I've had good luck with topwater baits. Bass dont see well in the dark so when looking for food at night they generally go for what's on the surface since its back lit by the night sky and easiest for them to see. My favorite is the Rebel Pop-R or a knock off. Color doesn't much matter since all they can see is a silhouette.

After some brutally hot days when the Bass have stayed deep, they often feed heavily at night. When we were kids a friend and I went fishing all night and did very well. And Bass over a campfire tastes better than in a kitchen!

Been night fishing since 1978, We didn't even have backlights then. Around the full moon in April on Tim's Ford the shad spawn at night and every fish in the lake are trying to eat them. A top water bait, I like a spook, but most any walking bait will catch large numbers after dark during the shad spawn. Shad will be close to hard surfaces to lay their eggs rock, riprap, boat docks etc., and that's where the fish will be. During this time in April I don't get much sleep, it's way to much fun. Spinnerbait #5 Colorado blade, or a jig& chunk are my go to baits the rest of the year. A spinnerbait reeled very slow around points, flats and drop offs draw violent strikes and a jig&chunk will pick up most anything else. The baits mentioned above all work but I'd defiantly add the Spinnerbait and Jig&Chunk to your night fishing arsenal.

My PB came in late July on Lake LBJ here in Texas. Fishing a weed line at 1:30 AM using a texas-rigged 7" red/blackcore worm. A 24" largemouth at 7.5 lbs. Noisy baits do work but so do dark plastics in black, purple or similar. Also red shad color works as it has a light dark contrast.

I'm with shortordercook62. A Texas-rigged 7" Culprit worm in Junebug or Fire & Ice color work best for me. Fish the worm slowly along the bottom. The bass hear and feel it in the water. Hook an 8 pounder in the dark and you'll never forget it. One year the hottest thing was a Zoom worm in bubblegum color Texas-rigged. Go figure!
