I have fly fished all of my life and I have never fly fished for crappies. Does it work, and if so what fly do you use? A minnow imitation? Has anyone done it?
I can't say for all waters, but for the ones I fished in TX, Carolinas, AZ, and WA, a small minnow imitation, with just touch of flash or wooly buggers in grey or olive green have always worked for me.

Thanks, AZ! Have I welcomed you yet? If no, welcome, we care, we share.
Bet a Clouser minnow would work well. Those eyeball weights get it down fast and jig easy.

One of my favorite crappie flies is a white marabou streamer with a silver tinsel body and a bit of red marabou at the throat. Simple to tie and highly effective. Have caught many crappies and some pretty big ones, too!

They do, I have used them for walleye in the shallows.

Thanks, doc, I must have a few of those in a box somewhere.

In Minnesota?
The cold is still waiting for your return.
Cool beans dude.
LOL
I grew up catching lots of crappie on fly rod using poppers in the summer.

True that, I don't even bring my fly rod down here anymore. If I want to fish the grass flats for trout or reds I will use my spinning rod, it's a lot easier to use while your standing in knee-deep mud.

If I were you and could I would stay a few more weeks.
Use any white dry fly during the mayfly hatch. You won't be able to keep up
Streamers have worked well for me. I fish them with a spinning rod and put a small sinker 10 to 12 inches above the streamer. Short retrieves and a pause works well for me.
During spawn in the shallow flats, or where ever you might find them they will hit almost anything they are protecting the nest.

If it would be up to me, I would stay the whole month. The reason being that the sheepshead are just starting to spawn and get crazy. Spring Break is in March, lots of babes around. In Mn. we can still get 3-4 snowstorms. The bride misses her home and wants to go back. "Happy wife, happy life", so we go back at the end of Feb. Plus, when Spring Break starts in March the Vacation Rentals triple in price. There will be 400,000 people here during Spring Break, the population of SPI is normally 2807. They do not have the infrastructure to handle that many people. It will take 2 hr. to go across the 2.4 mile bridge. They only have 3 streets for a ways then it narrows down to one in SPI. Can you imagine the traffic congestion? Clayton's, "the biggest beach bar in TX." will have 40,000 people there. Clayton buys beer by the semi load. Cops from all over TX. will come down to help out and they hirer all kinds of temps. They can't begin to keep up. From what I hear tell, it's a real mess and not a place an Ol' Fart wants to be.
