Am in my 90's. Want to keep fly fishing. I tore quickly and not as steady as I was thing of using a folding fishing chair at shore or very close to shore in very shallow water. Any suggestions?

R90's welcome to the forum if you go to your profile and fill out your location you might have some that live near you and would fish with you.

I hope I still can when I am in my 90's.

Wow Rip90. I am not a fly person but curious to the response you will get. I can't picture using a fly from a sitting position.

Please do as Eastern suggest and fill in your user profile. Just may be somebody that lives near you.

My Granddaddy was 95 and complained, I don't know what's wrong, I just can't do like I used to. He fished to the end. He took a fall when he was 96 and a few weeks later he was gone.

Pick the good sturdy looking chair from Cabela s and keep on casting for as long as you can go. Good luck and GOD BLESS YOU

I don't see why not, as long as you can find a STABLE chair and SAFE place to set it. I fly fish from a seat (though standing is possible and probably easier) in my Sea Eagle 285 frameless pontoon. I have observed MANY folks sitting in kayaks, fly fishing, and float tubes as well. I would think that the chair needs to be a bit "short-back" type, in height, to not constrict shoulder motion.... like a boat seat or float tube is. Biggest concerns are STABILITY and placement, and of course, portability to the chosen site. I have seen quite a few fish from wheelchairs, although I have not observed any other than conventional, not fly.
Find a point, or a dock (totally ideal) and give it a try. We are cheering you on, just for the gumption to go !

Welcome to the Forum, Ripper90. Have at it, but I would make sure I had a companion with me in case you tipped over and ended up in the stream. You know you can't get up as well as you used to.

I got a director chair from Cabela's that was taller than a regular chair for in my boat. They fold up and are light weight.and has a tray on one side. And a foot bar.

Wow. I hope I will still be able to fish as I get older. Try a float in the deeper holes.

That's the way I do it. folding chair but I usually use a spinning rod. A couple of months ago I caught 106 bluegills and one small bass on a fly during one day of fishing with my 50 year old fly rod. Love that rod.
All caught from the one spot. To get the bluegills to start feeding I threw some crispy Cheetos in the water. They love them and get into a feeding frenzy.
