I been reading the forum mail for a few months and haven't seen anything on chum.I chum almost everytime I fish.I chum for baitfish, I chum for real fish, I chum for sharks.Chum can be canned corn, peas, beans, white rice, rice bran livestock food, hamburger that's gone bad, sliced sandwich meat,Tractor supply dry and canned Cat food( tuna and shrimp) .just thro it out by the handful or smush it with coo ked rice or rice bran to make a ball. You can make little holey pill bottles and tie it rt. to the fishin line, or bigger 1s made from soda bottles and even pieces of 4" stovepipe with a big weight for tying to yer boat. Sharking use onion sacks or a bucket like "Jaws" filled with fish guts and heads .Get agallon of menhaden oil from Amazon for 40 bucks and it lasts a loooong time. Watch that english guy Graeme on Totally Awesome Fishing Show on Youtube when he's on his boat and do what he does. It also works for fresh water

I have never heard or seen anyone using it in the Upper Mid-West. Is it legal? I don't think it would do me any good to put it in a trout stream while flyfishing.
wouldn't hurt anything to throw a few handfulls of corn in and float it down the river.i have caught brookies on corn
Soaked soy beans for catfish works well.

Using corn as bait is OK here at Lake Dixon but illegal to chum with corn.
The park rangers use binoculars to catch people chumming. Ticket time.
I'm pretty sure unless you're out on the ocean chumming is illegal period in California. I once saw a game warden cutting something out of a tree branch that was hanging over the water. It was a big piece of some kinda meat. The maggots would fall out of it into the water and attract fish. Not legal.

That hanging meat sounds like a good idea if legal. People keep coming up with all kinds of ideas.

Road kill is good for something

Louisiana had a recipe for everything, even zoos had the common name, the scientific name, and a recipe for every animal.
It does work well to put roadkill rolled up in chicken wire and hang it out over the water, not so much as a chumming but it makes a great fish feeder.
cough cough
yeah tell that one to the warden. what? You're not allowed to feed the fish?
