Thanks. Never thought of grabbing the reel. Always wrapped a towel around my arm then the line around my arm

That will still pull the line into the spool, making the next cast bind. IMO It is better to wrap the line around something smooth and hard like a socket set extension or even a Phillips screwdriver shaft.

Didn't think about it binding. Makes sense. Ill stick with my arm. It has always worked so far

^^^ This. His suggestion still leaves lots of chances to break the rod.

Yeah well I keep my rod pointed right at the water no bend in it. LOL

I carry some used spark plugs in the boat for getting unhung, just put line under the tab on the plug tap it down on to the probe, let it slide down to the bait, give the line some slack, jiggle it several times, more slack and jiggle again, 99% of the time it come loose, it not you have only lost a used spark plug and bait or hook you were going to lose anyway.
