Hi to everyone from Port Arthur, Texas! I'm fairly new to fishing. I went as a child, but just recently (at 33 years old) found out how addicting it is to be out on the water! I lose myself and track of the time out there. My dad is currently on hospice, and I've found that fishing is the perfect hobby for me to bond with him on, and for me to cope. So far, I've caught croaker... so I'm always looking for tips. I live on the gulf of mexico, so I mostly fish saltwater or brackish. Anyways, good luck everyone! ♡

Welcome to the Forum, Bridgette. Does Port Author have a pier? If so, check it out, piers are great places to learn from the locals who are your best source of information Ask, watch and learn as possible form the locals. If no pier, talk to the locals who are surfing fishing or your local bait shop. It's MHO that live shrimp is perhaps the best bait in which to use. Did you dad fish? Talk to him about fishing.

Welcome to the stage Bridget. I hope u enjoy these folks. There is a a lot of information here, just ask or use the search option at the top. I see you filled out your profile. That will help weed out us freshwater fishermen for the most part. I am familiar with your location as I used to live in Houston. Be safe out there.
Welcome to the forum BF. There's a lot of fishing knowledge available on this forum & all you have to do is ask or hint around what you want & these old geezers will spill everything they know. You're fishing saltwater so that leaves me & Oz out. Good luck & tight lines.

Welcome Bridgette. Keep the pics coming. Love to see what people catch
Welcome, lady. Get a red and white mirrolure and start plunking. Change speeds and jerk it now and then. You will catch a wide variety of fish on that. Gluck.

Welcome Bridgette, I live close to Galveston bay, I use speck rigs but makeup my own rigs using different color jig worms. Twister or swim tails. Good for trout, flounder, reds.
