I get 3 days of the family vacation for me. I don't fly fish but want to find somewhere I can get a place and maybe rent a boat and cast for a few days. Any ideas? I like big fish! Budget is $200 a day. I want secluded. Thanks!

$200 for the room. Boat is a plus, and I would consider aside in price.

Eleven Mile reservoir is in the southern side outside of Colorado Springs There are nice rainbows and cutbows as well as pike. You can rent a place up in lake George for roughly 100 bucks a night and the Marina rents boats, kayaks are cheap to rent. call ahead and get prices. The best area there is just outside of coyote ridge early spring. The marina number is 1-719-748-0317

Lake City is secluded..several motels...may not be open yet due to snow..We stayed at place there called Castle Lake campground Sept 28-30..didnt fish just enjoyed magnificent foliage.. Aspens in full color......They close down for snow usually on 1 October.. Engineer Pass close by..DO NOT drive it in a Ford F-150..ask me how I know!!! lots of water nearby for fishing..
plenty of jeeps & 4X4 for rent there

If s.w. co, you can’t beat Vallecito near Durango. You have the opportunity to catch trout, Pike, and small mouth bass in one place.
Recently open to recreation, lake Nighthorse is showing signs of being an epic fishery. I have not personally fished there as of yet but some pictures seem too good to be true. The area is flush with guides if you prefer river wading over bank fishing and need some advice. N.W. NM - pretty much have to fish the San Juan tail waters of Navajo reservoir. Get a guide with a boat and go for a 1/2 day float. S.E. Co has John Martin reservoir...not much of a trout destination imo. 11 mile canyon and reservoir are good, but not really southern co as much as central. It’s at least a 4 hour drive from any point of NM. The lake can be hella windy and frustrating and the canyon can be very crowded for fly fishing. Another s.w.co location might be Platoro reservoir near del Norte on the conejos River. May is way too early unless you drive a very high clearance vehicle with great rubber. By June you should be able to take your regular vehicle all the way up the forest service (maintained) dirt road. Great free camping in the valley and a small general store near the lake.

ditto on lake Platoro lots of wildlife, camping places...Check out Chama,NM. not far South with really neat narrow gauge railroad..about dark the town gets full of deer coming in to graze the flowers, etc..

Long ago I fished at Eleven Mile. Night fishing, limited out and caught a nice carp. The carp made great compost.
