Tired of ice

Recently purchased a fish camera, in Northern Illinois the ice is about 10". My 15 almost 16 year old grandson and I have drilled enough holes to weaken the ice. Love the camera, it beets any fish finder or flasher out there, at least for ice fishing. I have watched bluegills in the 3-4" range for hours. Crappie in 6-9" range and walleye. Had a northern come up to the eye of the camera and actually mouth it, backed off and gave it a weird look. One Bass that attacked the camera, huge. But all we can catch is little gills. I carried more tackle than the space shuttle. Tried tip ups, everything but minnows. On one tree where we have seen several crappie, we found minnows frozen in the ice, although I live on a private lake where you cannot use minnows. Can't say I haven't had that thought. But no. I give up. Dan N Illinois.

Try jigs and soak your plastics in garlic.

Thanks, never used garlic, but have tried several jigs. I think that open water below the damns are inviting. However if I do go back on the ice? I am heading for some garlic.

At least there’s fish there
I have a camera too and love watching
There’s times you can see the fish actually mouth the bait and not even take it
You can’t get that from a flasher
My last time out I had perch at the camera all day with same results as you

Obviously the fish are not always hungry
Next time out might be another story
That’s fishing I guess
