When we go to Canada walleye fishing we always run into a lot of sm bass fishermen. There are not as many bass fishermen as there are walleye fishermen but they will make up for about 20% of the total fishing population at a resort. We go to the Lac Sioux area in Canada and most of the sm bass fishermen are from MO., which would be below us in MN. The bass fishermen will have 50 - 100 fish days like the walleye fishermen do. I did know if most of the sm bass fishermen we aware of this or not. You probably are, I just thought I would let you know.
Thanks for the info! My son and I are heading to 1000 islands in New York/Canada to smallmouth fish. We are more of spotted/largemouth fishermen, but always wanted to fish for smallmouth. We have never been to New York or Canada. We are looking forward to the trip as we are from North Carolina.
Is it difficult to obtain a Canada fishing license, or should we just stick to the US waters on the St Lawrence?
Again, thanks for the info!

The only place I have fished on the East Coast is out Jacksonville, NC. We fished in Ontario, Canada and we can get our Canadian fishing lisc. online, but we first have to have a Canadian ID Card. That too can be purchased online at the same time as the lisc. Getting the lisc. is not a problem but getting across the border and into Canada can be. Ontario will not let felons or people with a DWI in. The DWI thing will weed out a lot of people. Yes, I would definitely go into Canada in order to get away from the people and the fishing pressure. I would imagine the Upper NY. would have a lot of pressure. I would also imagine the farther you would go into Canada, the fewer people and the less pressure. (IDK) Good luck and tight lines!

Take some pike lures like a Johnson silver minnows with a white trailer. Use a wire leader for the pike they will cut you off. The seaway has a good supply of musky also. The Bass fishing is awesome.
Thank you. We are staying on Grindstone Island close to Clayton, New York. We are looking forward to our trip. It is not until August, but I am a little OCD and I like to have I’s dotted and T’s crossed.
Yes flyguy, northern smallmouths are wonderful. Mat nc….My son , and I go to the 1000 islands at least once a year. ( Chippewa bay ) the st. Lawrence is so big, and fishy, we never needed to fish in Canada. be careful that you don't stray into Canadian waters without one though. a good map is a must, and be careful. lots of dangers in that big water!
