How do you load mono on your spinning reels?
I've done both of these in the past.
1. Pencil through spool, line coming off over the top of spool.
2. Lay on ground and check for twist every few turns, flip as needed.
What do you do?
Saw some guy on YT claiming to be some sort of manager at Shakespear who couldn't even tie an arbor knot.
Richard Gene says to soak in water for a week to limber the line. Any truth to that? I have never bought line until the day or most the day before I needed it, but I suppose I could start planning ahead further if worth it.
Edit:
I just loaded some line since posting, method 2. Just wanted to note, if using this method and your rod tip is high above, when you dip it to check for twist don't confuse coils piling up with twist. I think this is the best method, coming off spool counter clockwise.

I buy it from my tackle shop and take the reel with me they have a machine that does it in the the time it takes me to pay

Counterclockwise. Throw weight out in a river get the twist out. Reel back in. Done

I forgot about this, I do this also.

Line coming off the bottom of the spool. It's how Shimano tells you to do it and it works for me. I think spooling under tension so it's not loose on the spool matters more than what direction you put the line on.

Wait. Not all lines are spooled in the same direction, you say from the bottom but direction doesn’t matter? Why is the bottom magic?

I don't know, call Shimano and ask them why the bottom is "magic". As I said, I don't think it matters what way you put it on as much as it matters that it's under tension. I put it on with the line coming off the bottom of the spool because that's what they recommend and it gives me no issues.

‘It doesn’t matter’ also ... ‘the bottom’

You're having a lot of trouble grasping this.

No I’m not. Why the bottom if it doesn’t matter
--

Well because I have to do it in some way or i'm never going to go fishing, am I?
Imagine there are 3 different routes you can take to get to work. They all get you there in a similar amount of time so it really doesn't matter which one you take. You take one of those routes. Why? Because you have to pick one or you're not getting to work.

I flip the spool of line in order to reduce the twists. Once I am done I take it out in the yard spool the line out into the grass and reel it back in under local tension (just above the reel) in order to continue to remove the twists.

Or just do what I do. Spool it however the hell you want. Tie on your favorite lure and cast as far as you can, because you're definitely gonna get snagged anyways. Once snagged, pop your favorite lure off, then you have all your line out, removing any line twists. Reel in with your fingers on the line providing tension.

I spool it with the spool
positioned so that the loops coming off the spool match the way the line in going on the reel. Then take the rig to a park, tie a heavy (12”) weight on, walk the line off the reel to the very end & start reeling the line back on the reel. This puts the line on properly while putting tension on the line. Problem solved.
If your reel spool turns clockwise, lay the spool of line on the floor so the line comes off clockwise. Best if reel is over the spool and your line is through the first eyelet.
