I'm looking for a telescopic fishing rod for backpacking trips.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Freshwater? Saltwater? What are you looking to throw with it? My immediate answer would be no, get a multiple peice travel rod.

A two piece rod works well. Get some PVC and cut it to length. Use 2 caps and the rod should pack nicely and be able to withstand a lot of abuse. The overall length and diameter obviously depends on your rod. Can be mounted to a pack easily. Pack the reel separate.

This is the best setup I have come across.

Telescopic rods are about equal to just wrapping line around a branch and hand tossing a lure/bait out there.

I’ve found that unless you go with a high quality JDM one, you’ll not enjoy a rod. However I do not have any specific recommendations for them.

I have several, of various sizes and qualities. You don't say your target fish, so what I would suggest for trout, might not work for bass or northerns and muskies. My little cheapo "Coleman"..5'6" spinning rod ( yeah, I was unaware they "made" fishing gear, too), that I picked up at a garage sale 20+ yrs. ago, has lived in my truck and occasionally has caught trout and crappie. Actually not too bad a rod, though much too short for me than my normal choice. Packs down to about 14". Have one (6'6") that I just got from Wish.com...for like $8 (incl. shipping !) that I can't wait to try, quite solid feel with sensitive tip. Have a couple of 3.6 meter (about 11') that I use for surf rods (pack to about 16"+)...kinda stiff, but serviceable for surf perch and the like. My favorite ? A BPS "Mississippi Troller"..20' ! Only packs down to about 40-42", so not really a "pack rod", but excellent for "spreading the lines" without a side planer.
I have a five-piece Daiwa 6'6" that switches from spinning to fly that I would surely take if backpacking. Not sure if they still make it, I've had it for at least 20 yrs. My rule of thumb these days would be to not purchase an ultra cheap, but certainly don't rule them out if you can test it in person. (My wish.com purchase was a gamble that actually might pay off... we'll see when I hook that first one !)
Saw an Okuma 4pc at Dick's, haven't checked it out yet.

Go to ebay and search for 'telescopic fishing rod'. There are over 10,000 results, so it's your choice. They run anywhere between $1 and $1,700. If you order from Asia the delivery time could be anywhere from a week to two months. You're sure to find something in your price and choice range.

Don’t buy one, but go for a multi piece rod instead......that’s my advice.

Sounds like you are going to be fly fishing for trout. Check out 4 piece fly rods. There are a lot of choices out there. They'll fit in your pack, or tie to the outside lanyards, with no problem. I've had two telescopic rods and didn't care for either one of them.
