When they start hitting near the top that would be a good time. Colder weather has them in deeper waters now here in N C. End of March they should be moving from the bottom.

March 28 & 29, it's the open season tournament. The fish are tagged any where from 25 dollars to 5000 can be won. Have to register and get daily permit but it's worth it.
Hasn't gotten too many people over the last few yrs.

Brad thanks for the info that really sounds like something I will want to do next year. Have some spring things lined up for this year but just marked my calendar about it.

I gave your user name to CDB concerning that info. He lives out that way and may be contacting you.

Thanks Again

Seafoam, there is actually a popping cork advertised as trout catcher. I have had some nice catches with a cork when they are hitting not on bottom or top. That little clicking sound is an attractive that they hear from a good distance.

Most times you will see that cork just go under and disappear. The ones that are cool is when you see that cork traveling across the top of the water at a good speed. Better have that grip on.

Thanks plumbob. If you can find a link or picture send it. I love using poppers for bass but I'm guessing they are a bit different.

Seafoam this is the style I like, the tapered formation of it doesn't hang up as frequently on the leader. Comes in various colors and manufacturers.
