I needed to grease up a sticking spinning reel this afternoon because nothing is open in this small town. I used marine grease that I use on boat trailer wheel bearings.

Was that a good idea or not?

Great Idea if It lubricates wheel bearings it should lubricate reel bearings

Why do you want to know now? I would say not a good thing, but what do I know. Are there any professional reel men on here? That question could cause problems, but you know what I mean, I think. Any professional reel cleaners out there?

Thanks I hope. Gave it a few test cast and the stiffness went away. Time will tell I guess.

Well if its going to be a problem now is better than later was my thought. Can always re clean it. But its ready for tomorrows ventures or until I get the right grease if the pro's say I need it.

I wouldn't worry with it, I use lubricant a lot in my line of work, and they usually are not very limited in what they can lubricate.

Not really worried just that there is a right way and a wrong way and curious more than anything. That's what I like about this site. Many perspectives.

There was moisture in side so I feel grease is better then oil in this case.
