Going Catfishing for the first time in 40+ years next month. Wonder which (if any) commercial scents are recommended. I don't fish for them much and don't want to try and create my own when I can purchase a small amount at a reasonable price. Absent research, I'm thinking something like Smelly Jelly in a Crawfish or Bloody Tuna scent might be worth a try.
Also wondering if anyone uses Yarn balls (Yarnies) like I use for Steelhead to absorb the scent when Catfishing? Can't use live bait, so will have to use store bought Shad or maybe Herring. I tied a bait loop and put a yarn ball on a couple of my leaders thinking it might help hold and disperse the scent.
Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated!
I'll include them in my bait arsenal. Thanks!
I always used to use fresh mackerel. Bloody and oily and stays on the hook well. They like it.
Thanks Spirit. I'd like to use some fresh cut bait if I can get into some prior to the trip. Fishing the Snake/Palouse River in Southern WA state. I remember way back when, in another state, we used chicken livers like EasternOZ recommended.

Hey Jimmy where here in N C are you catching cats. I am a salt water guy but would love to get me a few kitties.
Mike's probably out fishing. Pretty sure he uses chicken livers.
I bought some store-bought shad and haven't caught anything. Never had any luck with stuff like that. Liver (chicken) seems to be very good.
Thanks for all your replies. Looks like I need to find some Sonny's and give it a try.
