I have a 1760 Alum Roughneck Boat w/ 40HP Jet that I use on the rivers of Pennsylvania. I am spending two weeks at Lake Moultrie. What areas of the lake would be safest in A boat this small?

We fished moultrie in a 16 ft fisher with a 35 we went all over just watch the weather and for stumps. We fished out of blacks fish camp. Make sure you have a rebel crawfish with the shallow lip.

That is a relatively shallow lake, doesn't take too much of a wind to really churn it up big time. I was there with a 17 foot Bass Tracker a few years ago. Found I had to stay back it the coves at times, cause it was just too rough out on the main lake.

Can't recall how many years ago, but at least one "pro tournament " fisherman was killed during a storm that came up during the tourney down there.

In Moultrie try fishing in the Russellville flats lots of small islands and cypress trees good protection but the open water can get rough on windy days

Keep an eye on the weather if you have to cross that lake. You were told of a good fish camp. They will lead you in the right direction. Please be safe .

Fuzzy, Blacks fish camp is in the diversion canal. You can go left to lake marion of right to lake Moultry. Dont know where you are staying but both lakes do get very rough when the wind is blowing. I fish there quite a bit mostly for catfish. When are you planning on being here. I might can gi e you a better report

Blacks Fish Camp is a nice area. Some people live there full time. In the spring people will be out fishing with a one man boat. Always watch the weather and for the stumps just under the water. Some have Rail Road spikes and big nails put there to tie a boat to or a Cat Fish basket. Sometimes the Restaurant is closed. Big fish are caught out of there. Suggest you get a Lake Moultrie Map. If you are coming down 95 to Santee. Exit 98. Two tackle shops are there and a couple in Eutawville that you will probably travel through. Good Luck and be Safe.

About 10 12 years ago 4 people from my hometown had their boat flip over, one wasn't fojnd for a couple of months. Stormy days the lake gets rough, even for a large bass boat. Our boat took a beating on a trip there 8 years ago, be watching for storms, check weather reports before going out.
Good luck. DEEJAY.

Iused to fish Moultrie out of a 14’ Starcraft V-hull with a 25 Johnson, never had a problem; but i didnt tempt fate either. If the wind gets up, you need to have a plan already laid. If the weather is foul, you can try Wadboo Creek below the dam. Black’s is a great place as others have said, and you can fish the diversion canal for some big catfish in the evenings.
