Is there a way to close that gap? The hook comes off through the gap. I’m using braided line, maybe I have to use mono with this type of hook?

Throw it away. Hooks are cheap. I doubt youll be able to close the gap, and any effective method is either going to take too much effort or degrade the integrity of the circle. Even though the opening is on the opposite side from where the knot should be, I wouldnt want to tie anything to that.

Yeah, that’s most likely what I’ll do. Got it from one of those premade tackle boxes with a bunch of soft plastics (which I’ve never caught a fish on)

Clean it really really well, get it hot as hell, drop a glob of solder in there and see if it holds. I'd throw it away. Remember, the bigger the glob, the better the job. Old Navy saying.

Put a little Epoxy on the gap if you want to use those hooks. I would be temped to just dump them and buy some good ones.

Don’t tie braid directly to the eye. Use a mono or flouro length of leader to the hook.
I found a video on u-tube of a Cpt. on party / head boat had this problem and resolved
it by going through the eye twice so the line actually pressed against itself rather than
rubbing fraying on that open piece of eye. My 2 c’s. Tight lines
