Almost bought a Humminbird Helix 7 G3 to at BPS, but thought I’d see if anybody had any feedback, good or bad on these. Or if there’s something more recommended for the $500 range. I fish bass tournaments.

Go on YouTube and down load around 8 or 10 videos and go through each video at least 3 times so you are very familiar with the settings and operations.

I looked at the humminbird locators at bass pro. I have used lowrance for years but liked the helix line. I started looking on line & found the locators much cheaper than bass pro. I bought 2 hummingbird helix 10 chirp & saved a bundle over bass pro prices. Same locators, same warranty.

Stay away from the Humminbird HELIX 7 G3 you need to look into the Garmin units instead as the Humminbird HELIX 7 G3 look good, but they are not to fishermen friendy and hard to learn. I have both the Helix 7 GPS and the Garmin and you cannot even see the Helix screen from 4 to 5 feet away but the Gamin if fine from far away and it is easy to use.

I bought a Helix 7 last year. It had GPS, down imaging, and sonar. I fish bass and panfish. I gave it to my brother and bought the same unit with side scan and auto chart live and Mega Chirp Sonar. Don't buy a fish finder without side imaging. You will regret it. The auto chart feature is a real plus for bass fishermen. I paid $700.00 at Cabala's plus $100.00 for a zero lines chip that would store infinite maps. $700 might be above your budget, but I made the mistake of buying a unit without those features and now I am out the money I paid for the 1st one. Down imaging and sonar only show you what is directly under your boat, side imaging will show out to 150 feet to each side. Way more effective. Look up side imaging and down imaging tutorials on Face Book, there are lots of them. Do this before you buy and then again after you make your purchase.
