Jigging Tips for Catching Walleye in Rivers...
I live in E. WA and fish the Columbia River for Walleye. With a current of 4-6 mph, it's neccessary for me to use 1/2 oz weighted jigs. I seek a water depth of no more than 40' when current is that fast to ensure I can bounce the jib off the bottom. It's far more effective to drift the current because the line is more vertical AND you are covering more area. Use your main gas motor in reverse to slow the drift speed if you really need to get down to the bottom in deeper water. I prefer paddle-tail action of split tail but have both types. Always bring on board 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz jigs on board. Don't be afraid of using blades in current too.
I prefer fishing the moving waters over reservoirs because walleye love current and they actually fight more too.
