Is it too cold still for fishing?

Threw a few googan worms on a Texas rig out into the river today in a couple spots. Maybe I was too impatient on the return, but I didn't even get a nibble.

Maybe someone can help a newbie out and give some tips on where a brotha can get a bass or something?

Do you have a local bait shop, or any friends or family you can ask where to go? If they are not bitting on worms, try some lures or fake worms of a few different colors.

I tried some rage craws in a few colors but not much action. I'll see if the local tackle shops know what's up with the bass this time of year. Texas winter's should be fair on fishing but I could be wrong

Stick with it. It’s always slow this time of year. Get a feel for it and wait for the spring/spawn explosion.

Make sure you focus on features in the water body, e.g. downed timber, grass, points, etc. Also fish where moving water pushes bait past an ambush area, whether it's an eddy in a stream or a windswept point on a lake.

It’s okay I have watched professionals get skunked here in central Texas.

Check out the san gabriel river, brushy creek(north of austin) , the blanco river, Colorado river(south, west)....If ur from up north the fishing wont compare... central Texas isn't best known for its abundance in fish

Check with the local bait shop they will be able to help with some fishing information. They have knowledge of the Austin Texas fishing and want you as a customer so they are willing to answer any of your questions. Good luck with your future fishing and give us a report..

Fished a tournament on Lake Travis Saturday. It was a bit slow but the guys with the heavy stringers fished mid lake. My partner and I had most luck on drop-shot rigs out to 40 feet of water. June bug finess worm worked then later switched to green pumpkin or green pumpkin magic. Tougher from the bank for bass but like one post said always try windblown banks or points near deeper water this time of year. We found fish between boat docks not really under the docks. Other areas to try bank fishing are Brushy Creek Lake, Pflugerville Lake, the small lake on Discovery and Whitestone behind the Costco store. Decker Lake AKA Walter E. Long lake can be good also though easier for cats as lots of the lake has reeds and the grass is coming on now but not near the surface yet. Keep fishing, they will bite if you find them. If texas rigging doesn't produce, try the drop-shot or wacky rig a stick worm weightless. Hope this helps. Also look into joining a bass club if you're really dedicated to bass fishing.

I’m a little north of you in the Fort Worth area. Right now the big catfish are biting, we were using Shad on the bottom. Catching catfish from 2-35lbs, but also catching a lot of large mouth trying to target the catfish. All of the largemouth are full of eggs already. Our bait was just sitting, you may want to slow your retrieve a lot. Don’t know if that helps ya, but they are there don’t give up.

You're fishing the bottom, maybe try a Swimsuit then top water. Try and cover the whole water column if they aren't on the bottom they're somewhere else.
