Shopping for a nice graduation gift for my son. Any solid recommendations for a digital bait cast reel?
He is mostly a bank angler for LMB. Prefers jigs, swim baits and plastics. Any advice on gear ratio would also be helpful. I like the Curado, but are there “better” options without getting too crazy price-wise (under $300)? Thanks!

I have the curado DC and I absolutely love it. Easily my most fished reel since buying it last year.

The Chronarch MGL is a great option. I had kept my distance from Shimano for quite a while because I was not a fan of the Chronarch CI4+ at all. Hated it in fact. Decided to pick up a both a Metanium MGL and Chronarch MGL and I love them both. I haven't used a Metanium since the 2013 model, which I had several of, and it lives up to it imo. If you sign up to Land Big Fish's newsletter, Shimano goes 25% off a fair amount of time. Chronarchs are around $200, and the Metanium MGL is $300. Definitely worth it.

I’m figuring you mean digital line length counter. I got an Okuma rod and reel combo with digital line counter. It’s good for salmon. The line counters help for fishing from a boat.
Shimano - Curado 150 DC
The Shimano Curado 150 DC is redefining performance with it's unique digitally controlled braking system. The Curado DC is one of the most technologically advanced reels on the market , offering an easy to adjust external braking system that allows for long distance casts on a variety on lures. The braking system is measured and controlled by a microcomputer ever 1/1000 of a second to apply the optimal braking pressure for more control and to virtually eliminate backlashes.
