Looking for fly reel recommendations for bass/pike

Decided I’d try fishing out of the box this coming up year and picked up a st croix mojo bass 8wt rod for large mouth bass and northern pike. Found a lamson liquid for $136.00, it includes the reel plus two extra spools. Also looking at the redington behemoth, seems heavy though. Is lamson a reputable brand? Any bang for the buck recommendations appreciated. Looking to stay under $150

Lamson is a very well respected brand and I don’t know how you’d do better for $150

Get the Liquid. At that price, I assume it's last year's model, but it doesn't really matter---they're good reels for the price. The drag system in the Liquid 7+ (their 8-wt version) is well suited to larger fish such as Bass and Pike, but, more importantly, the two extra spools will allow you to use different types of line interchangeably and increase your chances for success.

thanks for the info, I think I’m going to pounce on it! Its the 3.5 model if that makes a difference. Hopefully the drag is up to the task as I may use this outfit for some steelhead as well.

That's a couple years old model, but it'll fish fine. The only problem you may run into is warranty wise, but Lamson is a solid company and they do good business.

I have the 7' mojo rod with an 8 wt behemoth and it has a great feel and balance to it. The lamson's do sound nice with the extra spools included though.

Suggestion: Take the rod to an Orvis shoppe and have them match the rod with the line and reel. Tell them where and what you are fishing for. That will give you a great start. For Bass I use frogs or surface insects that have some mass.
