Looking to finally get my own fly fishing gear.
Looking to finally get my own fly fishing gear. Found a redington hydrogen for 150 on local listings, price negotiable, should i pull the trigger?
I am looking for a decent all-arounder, and a rod i will continue to use even with more experience. any advice?
Edit: 9' 5 weight

ah just about everyone starts with a 9' 5wt. very versatile IMO. Id totally jump on that. Check it carefully for defects, take it apart, put it back together.

any common defects I should keep a special eye out for?

wouldnt say anything is "common" hairline cracks would be hard to spot thats the only thing id worry about. If its discolored , split or missing a guide....im pretty sure you'd spot that. Doubtful anythings wrong with it but you never know is all im sayin. I bought an old bamboo rod just because i wanted one and the price was right, i never put it all together and it was missing a guide. Easy fix but, wish i noticed. Dont be dumb like me! lol

Sometimes the female ferrule will be cracked and the pieces won't stay together. You can check that by looking at the female end very close. The fix is difficult. Don't buy it. A 5# 9' will be fine.
