What times/tides should I look to be out there and what tackle should I use?

I’m fishing off a fixed dock on a wide saltwater creek feeding into the Ashley river in Charleston.

Trout love soft plastics and top water lures. If you are fishing a soft plastic try to keep it towards the top of the water column and work it fast. If it is a particularly cold day you can slow it down a little. Also cant go wrong with a Spook or Spook jr for topwater, walk the dog action works best. Trout love current so middle of the tide change when the water is moving fast is usually a good time.

Check out molasses Creek behind Remleys point around 3hours before lowtide. Theres a public dock there at the corner of 4th st and 4th ave. I pitch a quarter oz jighead with a Zoom salty super fluke in smokin shad color and do great.

Idk I’ve heard them referred to as just speckled trout, but also black speckled trout (perhaps mistakenly). The speckles on them are black though, so I’ve always assumed that was the full name

For water cooler than 60°, slow your retrieve. Fish will be in deeper water. Also, because the fish are slower, they want to eat bigger bait. Try a suspending lure or a slow sinker like a Paul Brown corky.

Water Temps greater than 60° the fish well be feeding in shallow water and will be more aggressive. Use a jig head with a jerk bait or a top water
