Demo some different styles before you take the plunge. The last thing you want is to drop $1500+ on a kayak only to hate the fact it cannot do reverse so you have to drop another $800+ on a new drive unit you find on craigslist. Because now you have spent $2300+ on a kayak and drive when you could have just bought the Hobie you really wanted but "didn't want to spend the money on" for $2000+. Ask my brother what I'm talking about.

I prefer the prop style over the flippers myself, so perception pescador pilot is my recommendation. Good features, size, weight and price.

I second the test drive route... but be warned, once you go pedal drive for fishing, there's no going back to juggling a paddle and a rod. I agree on the prop vs flippers... being able to reverse instantly without having to pull a lever or cord, or turn a switch, has come in handy many, many times. The prop styles are a workout on the knees though, similar to riding a recumbent bike. If you have knee issues, I've heard the flipper style are a little easier on the knees.

I have an Old Town Topwater 106 PDL and love it. I admit, I didn't get a chance to try a Perception or FeelFree because there aren't any dealers near her. Hobie was out of my price range. But, I really liked the layout of the Topwater, how easy it was to pop the drive up, the integrated (and protected) transducer mounting point. In the water it's very stable, even when large boats wake you.

I just want to put in my vote for Feel Free, the wheel they have built in is very very convenient when you're on your own.

BKC PK11 10.6' Single Propeller Pedal Drive Fishing Kayak W/ Rudder System and Instant Reverse, Paddle and Upright Back Support Aluminum Frame Seat Person Foot Operated Kayak;$1,397.00 USD
The Brooklyn Kayak Company BKC PK11 Pedal Drive Solo Rover Kayak is an ideal representation of informed design. It has a plethora of features that an experienced kayak fisherman or distance travelers will love while remaining compact, lightweight, and agile in design. The core of the BKC PK11 sit on top kayak is a streamlined roto-molded UV-protected HDPE hull measuring 10-Foot 6-inches long and 2.8-feet wide. No matter the water condition, it rides currents, slices through chop, and glides over still water with effortless grace. The craft weighs only 60 pounds, so carrying it is as easy as you think thanks to the built-in handles at the bow and stern and on either side of the hull. However it's the pedal drive system in what most cases excites; with bicycle-style pedals turning a high efficiency propeller, allowing you to tuck your paddle into the kayak's paddle keeper and go hands-free. The pedals have adjustable straps to keep your feet secure, and the entire system can be removed for traditional paddling if you prefer or upgraded with a trolling motor for greater power and speed. The Brooklyn Kayak Company BKC PK11 can be controlled via its hand-operated rudder, which allows for sharp, precise turns or slow, wide arcs as conditions merit. It features a large watertight hatch set into the bow and an additional compartment tucked behind the seat, both of which feature dry bag inserts and that can safely stow items such as a wallet, keys, and snacks. The Brooklyn Kayak Company BKC PK11 also has a large rear cargo area with bungee tie-down straps; this area is ideal for bulky items such as a tackle box or dry bag. Scupper holes allow water to drain out of the kayak and can be sealed with included scupper plugs.Fishermen will appreciate the trio flush-mounted rod holders that can keep a rod out of the way during travel or keep lines in the water during trolling, and all paddlers will be thrilled by the comfortable, ergonomic aluminum frame seat that comes with the kayak.

Try as many ad you can, watch utube videos (mostly amateurs), comoare features you want (stable for standing/casting/rough water, reverse, easy pedel removal, seat adjust forward/reverse and up/down, hull warrenty, pedal unit warranty, etc.). Based in those elements, I chose the Old Town Topwater PDL and use it several miles out in the Gulf if Mexico , rivers and lakes. Take your time so you wint ne disappointed.

I had a pescador pilot but if you got in shallow water and could not get the prop in the slot, had to be just right, you were stuck because it would not go up or down. Everything else was ok very stable. Save the extra $'s and get a hobie

I purchased a Pescador Pilot 12 three years ago from Austin Kayak. It's a propeller-driven pedal kayak (no charge for shipping and no sales tax). . . total cost= $1,800. Love it. It's wide and stable with an extremely comfortable seat. I tow it with a kayak trailer. . . 73 years young. . .my days of lifting boats to the top of my vehicle are long gone.
