How feasible is it to fish for sustenance?

Don’t you people have a lemonade stand to raid or something? You know, these little girls that run those lemonade stands do not possess the proper permits, nor do they pay the proper tax. This is an epidemic across the country. What about the future of lemon tree orchards? How dare they? We must regulate and tax this outrageous free market rouge faction. I say we round up all these lemonade stand girls
Put them in re-education camps if need be, or until they obtain the proper approval and papers from the State.
This is your mindset towards freshwater fishing for sustenance.

Frankie, dude....Rantings similar to the ones that I have heard from the homeless ingrates in ALL of the West coast,.... apparently it's nation-wide or at the very least coastal-oriented.
I have given hours, materials, loan of tools,... weekends, empathy, sympathy, you name it, over my adult lifetime trying to get that "warm feeling you get from helping those who are less fortunate", that my Father pounded into our brains, practically from birth, to all six kids....we strive to adhere to the advice and "goal" to this day.
You, Frankie, are one of those, who have such a chip on your shoulder, or it seems, BOTH shoulders, should I say,... that your ears are simply blocked (really BIG chips). I have, over the past years, found mostly grateful folk, some of which I still see occasionally, remember me, and we pause to catch up. Some are unrecognizable because they have gotten over the "pity me", "let me do what I want", phase and moved on. Some of the Habitat for Humanity house folks have had "thanks" BBQ's....yeah, Dad...got it.

Then there's your type....which kinda fits the same actuarial, as we are blessed to have on this forum..... one in maaaybe 1 or 2..... THOUSAND !!!! We once built a house for a family and all they did was disparage each other the entire time of their "contribution" hours. And he yelled at the project manager for the "wrong" color of paint he got provided..... finished my trimming of the interior....got the hell out of that ungrateful @$$-hole's house, didn't show up for the party....gave up on that "charity" ......jaded to the max, on that one.
As I stated in an earlier post, my heart aches for EVERYONE who is less fortunate than me, regardless of why. If we would all reach down to help those below us to get to our present level, then they(you) would be grateful and gracious to give US a boost to get a bit higher on the ladder, we repeat the hand reach, that again gives us all..... HOPE..... the absolute ONLY trait that, some say, I believe, separates us from other sentient species on this planet, therefore, our unreasonable success at trying to control everything in our own personal sphere.....we kinda succeed... mostly. And that success is due to respectful diligence in fulfilling our obligations to the greater good.... you seem to have embraced that at one time, by having served your country. We wish you would return to that less angry, more "together, we got this" attitude, if for no other reason than you won't be enduring ridicule, but engaging in international commraderie about angling, ....and sometimes baitcaster vs. spinning...lol !
I have gone way beyond my "two-cents" worth ....by close to a dollar, I'm sure you ALL AGREE !! So, bye to this thread, head stopped hurtin' for a bit there, don't need it coming back.... ever, thanks. I'm out.....

“fulfilling our obligations for the greater good”. the mantra of totalitarian regimes throughout history. The little old lady with 3 bluegill in a skillet fishing without the proper paperwork isn’t the problem. taxes and fees and licenses going into the pockets of those who caused the problems in the first place, (pollution/habitat destruction) hoping they will fix it isn’t the answer. Because they won’t. never have.
Comply, obey, pay the tax or else.
My military service or anyone else’s is irrelevant. Service members and veterans aren’t mindless soulless robots that blindly follow and support every law. However, I took an oath that doesn’t ever expire. That oath includes protecting the inalienable rights outlined in the founding documents of America. The notion of requiring permission from the State to feed oneself would make George Washington and Thomas Jefferson see you on the end of a rope.
I have never had a freshwater fishing license for almost 50 years. I’ve done no harm, left no trace, never trespassed onto private property, picked up tons of litter and miles of old fishing line. I’ve fed myself and my family many times and thanked God for the few of his fish. This doesn’t make me a poacher or a criminal.
Gee it’s a wonder how the Native Americans were able to do this for thousands of years without regulations and taxation. Hatcheries and stocking is completely unesscesqary. It doesn’t save the ecology for future generations. That is an old argument has been debunked long ago. The freshwater fishing license only purpose is to generate revenue.
The poor inner city kid with a stringer of perch isn’t hurting anyone and isn’t harming the environment ,nor is he depleting the fish population. He would have that stringer of perch whether he had the license or not. People with no address or no ID couldn’t obtain a license if they tried. So, should those people be forbidden to feed themselves from the waters? Maybe they should just be executed on the spot. You know, for the greater good.
No matter what your religion is, they all say the same thing. God doesn’t want you to go hungry. He created the waters and the fish, and even the poorest of the poor can partake in its bounty. It’s called Liberty. not entitlement. not “doing whatever you want”.
Collectivists, Statists, bootlickers, atheists, commies and bullies would say otherwise of course. Bottom line. “The State cannot convert a right (Liberty) into a privilege and charge a fee therefore.”

Man!
Here is My Opinion.
No one asked for it.
But I offer it up.
Right can’t make the left understand.
Right try’s but left can’t see the truth.
Left thinks they’re always right but unfortunately
they’re wrong.
If the Left were Right, they wouldn’t be Wrong.
The Truth is Right.
Right must let the left go they’re own way.
Right Must Always
Defend Truth and Protect the Right.
It used to be
We can agree to disagree.
Regardless of who’s Correct.
It’s not like that anymore.

I hesitate to wade into this quagmire of opinions, half truths and perceived hatred. Those that think our fishing and hunting can be free are not looking at a large enough view of the issues.

Fish and game laws came about after the turn of last century when our fish and game diminished to the point that sportsmen banded together to begin development of today's rules and regulations. Since bureaucracies were developed to deal with the situations they have become larger and more combersone. Bureaucracies are good at perpetuating themselves and are not liked much by the general public nor those that work within them. Many of us still understand the need to perpetuate protection of the many species while balancing consumption. Unfortunately we need regulations so the majority of us have something to pursue.

There are those that believe hatcheries are not needed. They do not know advantages brought by hatcheries. Many species of fish and game would no longer be available for us to enjoy without them. Those that propose otherwise are only partially informed or have other agenda in mind.

Now, hatcheries are operated by individuals and they are a cross section of society so look at your own line of work to determine the quality of the workers. That said, I know hatchery workers that are very dedicated to their jobs but they are managed by those that may or may not know the best ways to enhance their effectiveness. They do their best.
Introduction of wild fish is also necessary to keep the genetics in the hatchery broadened. Some hatchery fish are not marked and become unrecognizable from wile stocks.

For anadromous fish the largest problem seems to be the return from the oceans. Returns from the oceans to the river system for salmon may be in the 1 to 2 out of a thousand. Wild fish are included. Without hatchery fish in the mix, what would be the chance for the wild fish? That answer is not known.
Buy your license. It is but a small contribution compared to all the other costs you're paying.

I am not a state employee nor have I ever received any money from their fish and game programs.

Now let those that feel the need sponge off the shoulders of the rest of us rationalize their selfishness.

Frankie hate to tell you but you have the classic attitude and ideology of a soveran citizen do not recognize any authority or have any respect for the law or anybody else including yourself if you are not one you should get in contact with them because you need to be. Always have an answer to justify your wrongdoing. May God give you everything you deserve.

Took me 4 years to get my first deer on public land. Lots of time practicing, scouting and hunting. Plus cost guns, bows, shells arrows , tree stands, and clothes. Hunting and fishing is not cheap.

God Bless all
5 Fallen Angels stirred it up but
the One Righteous God of Gods, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Through a righteous crowd or by one alone upheld truth.
His words Pierce Hearts.

Amen Jeff. However, as much as we would like, I don't think F5A is gone for good. Hopefully, but I doubt it.

I can’t help thinking this-
We text,
Our words,
weather we speak them
or type them,
They are still our words,
Put out for all to absorb.
Our words can educate or they can cause harm,
they can lift up,
Or Destroy.
We Must be Careful
How We Use them!
I Speak for Myself in this because I am guilty of my words hurting those I love.
In anger or in fun, joking or trying to change a mindset.
Be cautious.
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
My step mother Beat that into me with a hard oak paddle that said-
“For The Cute Little Dear With The Bear Behind”!
Black and Blue I Was and Took it With Out a Squeal!
My Dad Woulda Used His Belt if I Cried!
PTSD they call it Now!
Hahahaha!!
I’m Just as Carnal as the Worst of you all maybe more than most.
Conflicted and I know it.
But that little small voice tells me to do right
And when I listen to it
Things just go well
If I ignore it
Things go to hell!
Have a great day!!!
Lol
