I caught a 24 in koi today on my ultralight in my work pond. Does anyone have any information on koi? I have been researching them on the Internet and a 13-inch fish is worth $200 can't find one for sale this big. It weighs 7 pounds plus? I rushed him over 2 my personal tank pond at work. He is alive and well. I would really like to sell it. But do not know how to go about it. Anybody have any ideas what I should do?

Contact a pond supply store in your area and ask them. And don't get your hopes too high. There are other pond fish that look like Koi, you may have one of those. I don't know how to tell the difference, but I'd sure look into it if I were you, unless you trust the folks at the pond store.

Don’t be koi ROY, hop on the bus Gus, don’t need to discuss much... you all know the rest. I absolutely agree 100% with Spirit about the fish. He hit the nail on the head. I would say the problem is the pond and fish supply stores already sell them and don’t want to share the market. They could be worth a certain amount but doesn’t mean you will get it. Is there some sort of license needed to sell them. Be sure to research that part or may cost more than you ever wanted. Be careful with fish diseases too.

Do you have a pond at home that doesn't freeze over? If so, that is where he would go. If not, I would leave him where he is, if it's alright with the owners. Wherever he is, he is a good conversation piece. (MHO)

Be aware that in many areas If you sell the catch you made you may be subject to be arrested if you don't have a commercial license. Better check out BEFORE you start advertising the sale. Be careful out there.

That's probably a common goldfish that grew in its new environment after being dumped by its owner. Koi are graded by experts with regard to color, pattern and body conformation. Don't know if size is a consideration or if big is better than smaller. Selecting koi in Japan is called Senbetsu and its an art form. You could be started on a never-ending journey! I would say someone(employer) bought the fish for the pond. You may want to reconsider what you do with it. They are very expensive to purchase.

Not a particularly desirable color for Koi. I have 300 or so in my three acre pond that people have given me over the years as their small ponds become over crowded. We have a Koi group that sells , trades, and auctions a few fish a year. The most popular are fantails and special color patterns. I have auctioned off a few in the hundreds of dollars but the buyers are getting them for cross breeding. I see lots of offspring in my pond although the bass keep them thinned out.

We are pretty sure this fish came from our private micro pond that we have out in front of the shop. When we got hurricane Harvey the pond flooded over and all the koi swam off. It has just grown huge in the lake across the street. We are just lucky to catch him. We are going to keep him unless someone offers me good money for him and then he's sold.
