New steelhead nymphing rod

Hey all. I was looking into getting a 10’ 7wt for steelhead nymphing or maybe occasionally throwing a streamer. Wanted to try a new brand and narrowed it down to three companies. The (discontinued and hard to find) 10’ 7wt orvis recon, the 10 7 echo ion xl, or the 10 7 TFO BVK. Possibly as a wildcard the moonshine rod co 10 7 Drifter. If anyone who has experience with fishing any of these rods could lmk how they turn over an indicator or their backbone/tippet protection inversely, it would be immensely helpful. Thanks a bunch!

I use a 10' 5wt TFO BVK for my lake indicator fishing. It has a great backbone, BUT the rod is super stiff/fast, almost too fast, and is more of a 6wt than anything. Plus, the rod breaks a lot. Mine broke my first outing with it and if you do any research online you'd find others with the same issue. Nothing will ruin a day like a broken rod. Personally I'd recommend a Redington Vice for a budget rod, I have both the BVK and Vice and would choose the Vice any day. Just my two cents, tight lines!

I've been using the 10' 7wt recon for steelheading this season and love it. Plenty of backbone and turns over heavy rigs well. Most of the rivers I fish are small and I'm limited to lob/roll cast, the recon cast like a dream. Throw on a versi-leader or sinking line and it swings pretty well. The recon is very predictable when playing a fish. If you can find one, pull the trigger and get it.

Also, Orvis' customer service is great. I have encounter waders for a few years and they started leaking. I sent them into Orvis for repair and customer service promptly just replaced them with brand new waders at no charge.

Thanks man I’ll probably end up biting the bullet on it. A local fly shop has one left haha.
