Recently I got a fishing scale. On one end it has the plastic part and on the other end there is a hook. Where do I put the hook on a fish to way it.

Hook it in one of the gills
You can also/or push the hook part through the bottom lip but either way does damage. Either replace the hook with clips or attach the clips to the hook or replace them completely with clips. You can check for accuracy of a pull spring scale with a digital scale with clips by using a bucket of water weighed by the digital scale and then by the pull spring scale.
The air in the fish's bladder will make it be lighter if you weigh (not "way") the fish while it is in a bucket of water. Something to ponder...will it?

You got me thinking on that one Sebrof. If I put a 10oz sinker in a balloon full of air would it not weigh 10ozs in a bucket of water? I got to try that one.
I sharpened the end of the hook, not super sharp so it will penetrate the fish mouth,, but sharp enough they will stay there if they wiggle. I dont like messin w/ their gills. Its a tip I saw somewhere and it works.
That's a great idea. I don't like doing damage to the gills or mouth, especially if I am going to release them. Gill damage is easy to do.
yeah, I have no desire to injure a fish when unnecessary. those gills got to be delicate
