So I picked up the WildWater package on Amazon and have had a ton of fun with it so far but it's listed as a 5/6 package. I know reels are listed like that frequently but I haven't seen rods like that. If anyone has casted one of these, does it feel closer to a 5 or 6 wt.
Mainly asking because I'm looking to get a Steelhead/Smallie/LMB rod (I know I should get a couple to cover these, but money doesn't allow that right now so it's 1 rod to rule them all) and if the WildWater is more of a 5wt, then I'll get a 7wt for the other rod. If it's closer to a 6wt, I'll get an 8wt so I don't have the wts too close together for now. Unless you think that's a bad idea.
Also looking to get a sink tip line for LMB and streamers so want to know the proper weight line to buy. Thanks for the help!

What weight of line (and line model) do you have on your WildWater rod, and how does it feel?

I just have the line that came on it. When I get a new sink tip I’ll get a new WF line too. It’s not very slick and doesn’t have a welded looped. So that’s annoying.
It should be 5wt line that it came spoiled with but the Amazon description says the rod is designed for 5 or 6 wt line. So that’s confusing.

You should get an 8wt regardless for your heavier rod. Way more versatile than a 7.

I actually have the same setup and put a new cheap Rio 6wt floating line on it after a year. The heavier line loads the rod better in my opinion and helps with shorter casts.
Another option I’ve found is Scientific Angler Siege in 5wt. It’s a streamer specific line so it’s a bit heavier as well. I personally think the rod just behaves better with a heavier line.

Terrific. Thanks so much! Shorter casts (under 20ft) haven’t been much of an issue for me but anything longer doesn’t shoot very well. I’d imagine a heavier line might help with that.

Heavier line might be the way to go.
You know, it's kind of a "what works" test for these things. You can get too technical, and your guides and sporting goods stores love to go technical on you. That way they can help you spend your money.
