Welcome to the Forum, Paul. I would use my trolling motor in order to stay on top of them.

For an anchor that will hold, get a box anchor. You should let out at least 50 ft of line if the water is less than 15 ft deep. Anchoring in 25 FOW, let out at a minimum of 75 ft. Biggest problem is the boat will not set still no matter where you tie off the anchor rope on the boat. The boat will constantly drift side to side in the wind, unless you use two anchors. If the boat is drifting side to side, and you'er not anchored in exactly the right spot, you spend about 65% of the time not over the brush pile. Sometimes pulling the baits back and forth across the pile is good, but you spend most of the time with your bait out of the strike zone. When you let out the line needed to hold the boat, the boat swings in a bigger arc and again you miss the pile most of the time. That's why most people let out small amounts of line so they can stay closer to the pile and then the anchor starts dragging thru the pile. Then it's usually ruined.
That's why the majority of people don't anchor and use a troll motor.

Hopefully staying on top of the brush with the trolling motor won't spook the fish. Is there any way to cast to them using marks to outline the brush.

That's not a bad Idea. That way every time you go you will always be on them. WOW. Gotta do that. Thanks

Re: 50' of anchor line in 15' of water, 75' in 25' of water ? Well, gee....wonder why you can't stay in one place ?......duh !?!? LOL ! You and your boat are a floating pendulum ! Wherein lies that logic, Ron620 ? And what is a "box anchor" ? Never heard that term nor seen one in the catalogues.
Just throw out an 8-12 lb'er from both ends of the boat.... easy peasy.....15' of water, 20' of rope on either end pulls you to steady.

Tip -- if wind is blowing steady, drop one anchor and allow boat to "heel in" (swing or pick its own best angle in relation to the wind) before dropping second anchor. If you are still drifting after that, you need to find an alternative anchor configuration that is commensurate with the waterbody's bottom....ie mushroom vs. cleat-type. Rocks, sand, mud, moving (river), sessile (lake).....all factor in the choices and determine efficiency.

Or win the lotto, so you can get one of those I-Pilot trolling motors, where you punch a button and GPS keeps you in place ! Last I checked, they were similar in price to what I paid for my boat and trailer !!! ..... now... I am gonna go Google "box anchor"......
