Hello,
I’m in Littleton CO and I’m looking for some good little ponds in the area to fish come spring with my two boy ages 9 and 6. I hoping to find a place or two where they are all but guaranteed to catch a few fish to keep their interest. The worst thing is to take a kid(s) fishing and not catch anything. They have little interest to go the next time. I do not have a boat so we would be casting from shore. Any information provide would be helpful. Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forum Bbb. Find a local tackle shop and ask them your questions and they will put you on the right track. It’s to there benefit to get a new generation hooked on fishing. Pun intended. Please put your location in your profile. It’ll help flyguy with his spread sheet. Thanks.

Call your DNR there in Denver and ask them if the CHERRY CREEK RESERVOIR HAS EVER BEEN STOCKED. I USED TO "JUMP SHOOT" DUCKS THERE BACK IN THE '60S. Even shot down a model airplane one time when the operator of that toy saw what we were doing and buzzed about a dozen Mallards on our side of the reservoir from him. Then he laughed loud enough so we could hear him but he was enjoying himself too much to retrieve his toy before we could level, shoot, and send his toy to the bottom of the reservoir minus one wing. Then we both laughed loud enough for him to hear us and then we waved to him Kinda, Jer

I believe that this link may be of use to you... Maybe a little ice 🧊 fishing to start would be very exciting for your two boys.. Just a little bit of personal advice from my experience. Make the fishing more than a “JUST FISHING 🎣 ONLY EXPERIENCE” . I found out to keep the fishing to a short period of time was the best solution for my children. They become bored 😑 very quickly and if you stay too long they began to not have interest in fishing. Just my experience, all children 👶 aren’t the same. If the fishing is very slow in 30 minutes it’s good to be able to do other types of stuff.. Try ice 🧊 skating or sled🛷 ing. Good luck 🍀 fishing 🎣 with your sons...🎣🐠🐠

Download the Fishing Atlas app from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. It shows you all the waters available to you in the state. For example, South Denver shows 112 spots. You can zoom in to a specific spot and it will tell you everything about it. Another example, zoomed in on Littleton, 18 spots, then zoom again, 2 spots west of US85. Selected one, Watson Lake. Medium ease of access, not stocked, Handicap accessible, Largemouth Bass, Common Carp, Black Crappie, Bluegill.

I use this app quite a bit to find different spots around the state.

The river walk in Boulder is a great place to take the kids. It has a Long wide flat concrete path. I used to ride my bicycle along with my 7 yr old daughter along the path. Then pull over and fish. The river is right next to the path. You can see a ton of fish. She loved it.

If the weather is ok you may want to try going up to Nederland and fish the river on the way up and then the lake at the top of Boulder Canyon. Lots of fish and there is a small ski area right outside of town. Really low key no stress place. Great food in Nederland also.

If you have the time (maybe the weekend) 11 mile canyon is a great place to go in the winter. I have taken my daughter there and had a great time and is so-so on fishing.

The reservoir is ok but may be frozen over in places. The canyon is way more fun.
It is up by Lake George.
Lots of Deer,Elk,places to keep the attention of the little ones. Easy hiking trails.
Easy access to the water, Lots of trout, Great outdoor stuff to see and do for the kids.

Anyway good luck and have a great time.
