Pickwick Lake, showing her teeth

Pickwick Lake was showing her teeth today, with all the rain we've had here in southern TN and north AL the past few weeks and 6 more inches expected over the next week they were really moving the water down the Tennessee River, it was up a good 5to 6 foot and heavy current, Made for a hard time just sitting in the boat much less catching them big brown fish. But I did manage to boat this 22 1/4" 6 pound 3 oz beauty. Talk about a fight, this fish burned the line off my reel a good 40 yards down river then made a quick vertical exit from the water a good 3 to 4 foot. when she broke the water that far away in this heavy current I caught myself wondering how in the world will I ever get it back to the boat. My partner for the day did an about face with the boat and the chase was on. After another big jump and a couple more runs we finally led her to the boat. Man,,, Pickwick has some really nice Smallmouth and they fight harder than any other fish I've ever hooked.

congratulations! I guess that I have never caught a smallmouth of any size.
Ivey, that is one nice brownie. Wish I could have been there to see the fight. I know about high water. Our local lake was 30 ft above normal most of the summer & the rivers were over the banks & flooding. I couldn't launch my boat. Stay safe & keep looking for that 9 pounder.

Thanks guys, If you can fish a jig or a Swim jig, spend some time fishing Pickwick Lake sooner or later you're gonna lock horns with a big Smallie. Since I've spent 40 years chasing these guys, and and lucky enough to learn from some of the best Smallmouth fishermen in the world I've been lucky enough to catch my share of these beautiful fish. Every time it still gives me the shakes

Come on down any time, I don't mind sharing information. I'm getting on up in years and trying to pass all I know to as many as I can.
That’s a jollysocker of a smallie
Wv mike what in world is a jollysocker? I'm thinking I've seen too much in tonight's form. Oz want's to be a pig & you come up with a jollysocker, whatever that is. If it wasn't raining I'd go fishing.

Hey Ivey, you don't look that old , and you can catch some dandy fish. Sounds good to me.
You got to watch mountain monsters to see one you might never go in the woods after dark again.
Awesome fish Ivey. Thank You for showing us.
Hey Saw what part of N Cal are in? You can Private Message me if you want. Some buddies and I usually fish for Small Mouth in mid to late summer in Oregon if your interested. We fish in Eastern Oregon. Been going to same river for decades. We have the rafts etc. it’s really fun. I usually target Channel Cats too on same trip. Usually eat the fish at least one night of the trip sometimes a few nights of it.
The safest option for the Brussels committee would be to pick a homegrown cheese, such as the jolly Socker, which comes wrapped in a ball of blue wax that nobody has ever managed to penetrate.
Now we know the rest of the story...
.
That's an eastern brown trout. Ha. They fight better than browns. Lots of guys in Ohio get their smallies out of Lake Erie, but river fish are another animal. Very nice fish on a nice big river. Congrats.
That’s a really nice smallmouth Ivey! I go to Kentucky Lake every chance I get and never caught caught one near that big ! I was wondering if Pickwick has an Asian carp problem like we do up here in Kentucky . I’m thinking it has hurt our fishery tremendously and I might need to go on down into Tennessee on my next vacation
