No. Those would be just about perfect. Should be fun. Except for that ice part.

Thank you I was going to take them out this weekend for rainbows just to see how they feel. Who knows might even hook a laker and get spooled.

Top 10 Ice Fishing Perch [2018]: Fiblink Graphite Ice Fishing Rod Pole Gear Equipment for

The Best Ice Fishing Rods.

Hold a regular fishing rod in one hand and an ice fishing rod in the other and you will find it hard to believe that the tiny ice pole is capable of the job. This comparison demonstrates just how unique ice fishing is. The small size suits fishing from a small opening on the ice and sometimes from the confines of a tiny ice fishing shelter.

The best ice fishing rod will also have good sensitivity to transmit the subtle nibbles from the lethargic and finicky fish in icy waters. It should be strong and able to drop and work lures vertically and haul even heavy and struggling fish through the ice hole against gravity. It should also be tough enough to withstand the freezing conditions and perform well, have a grip-friendly handle and be easy to use on the ice with the limited dexterity of gloved or cold hands.

So what rods on the market meet these conditions? Below, we’ve reviewed 10 top rated ice fishing poles that meet the above requirements and work great for ice fishing. Additionally, our buying guide makes it easy to choose the best ice fishing rod depending on the kind of species you fish for and how you fish on the ice.

Ready to get started? Let’s go.

Thanks Ron. Will go check and compare those to the ones I made. Most rods I make are for jigging big lake trout 20-50 lbs. Never got a chance at pan fish before.should be an adventure.

Why not add batteries into the handle end of a little rod somehow to add a heater to the rod for ice fishing. Could actually integrate dirt bike handle grip heaters they are already available and use 12v. I guess could just have a cord .

Jeremy,a buddy of mine here came up with the heated rod. But no big name rod builders would do it. I will get with him and see what it is maybe try it on one I make. But for now a little W/D 40 on the guides helps keep them ice free. I always have some in my tackle box for when the fish don't seem to bite. Spray it on a tube drop her down and fish love it.

Good tip for the W/D 40. I'll try it on my guides. I found out years ago that catfish love it. I spray it on my carp cut bait or shrimp. Can you tell us where you found the giant perch. Almost any tiny perch jig will work. Tip it with a small piece of sucker meat or a couple wax worms. Drop it to the bottom, and bring it just off and jig. Then when I catch one I use the eye's of the perch to tip the jig. They stay on the hook better.

I used to use WD-40 inside smelt or herring for Sturgeon. I actually would get whole bait fish on hook ( its backwards from how to bait for most other fish ) Sturgeon eat the fish headfirst not tail first. Once fish is on hook I would use wd-40 with microstraw push the straw all the way through the bait until it is coming out of mouth then pull it inside baitfish...then fill the body of fish with it so it will slowly leave the mouth of baitfish wear the Sturgeon will be biting anyway.

As far as other fish I like eating a can of Oysters then use some of the juice in the can on bait like a tube bait etc...night crawlers etc. I am not sure if I want to eat fish that go around hunting for petroleum products but at least oyster juice is natural fish.

Well I've been by there a bunch of times on my way to Riggins in the spring. Long ways from here not 11 hrs on good roads. Just going to wing it. Not sure what to use or where to go but that's half the fun. End if Jan thru Feb 7 we'll be there

Not sure on motels? We just got an Air BB that was cheaper than a motel. But if you got to Cascade Lake I'd. Motels on internet it will show them. Might find a better deal around Macall.

Ultra light is fine. Jumbo Perch are pretty small, but the best eating fish there is.
