Man, That's a wicked lookin thing. It looks like it would give a pretty good fight though.
Can you go in the water wherever those things live? I second the wicked description. What do you do with one of those?

Looks like a giant salamander with no legs.
Someone else was talking about these a couple of weeks ago. They are a cold water species that requires very cold water to reproduce. I hear they taste like lobster.
Haha.yep they are wicked looking, they are a preditor fish, eating machines. Not much on the toothy kind of fish more like a catfish. With one chin wisker. There night feeders although can be caught in the day light. There fun to catch when you find em it's game on. With a 6 rod limit here on Burbot you won't need a chair. And there's no limit on them. And great eating. Spirit swimming is safe just keep your junk in the trunk and you won't be on the menu.
Gotcha. No skinny dipping with Mr. Burbot!
Same can be said for bluegills.
I have heard them called Ling Cod. They are ugly and they are tasty.

True ling cod out here in Cal. is an ocean dwelling bottom fish that is both ugly and tasty also.

We call burbot, eelpout, in MN. and we have an International Eelpout Festival around the middle of Feb. in Walker, MN. It is a big deal (drunk) and it will bring a ton of money into the small town of Walker and the surrounding area. Sections of Leech Lake, a very big lake, will be just covered with people with hardly a place to stand in order to fish. Big money prizes and a good time is had by all.

A burbot is not a cross between two species. It is its own species.
