That powerbait sure does work. I've said before, it probably ought to be illegal. I'm surprised it, isn't here in California.

You are right if you are not planning on keeping the trout power bait is not a good choice. Probably 80% of the trout will swallow the hook.

Mike I occasionally use powerbait and sometimes float nightcrawlers off the bottom, I used to have that problem. I bought a package of a hundred #8 barbless circle hooks from Cabelas and I don't have that problem any more. Circle hooks usually avoid gut-hooking and the barblessness (?) makes it simple to remove the hook with minimum damage. I do most of my fishing with barbless hooks of some sort cause I usually try to let them go.

I also use circle hooks Now and then but not so much barbless I guess that’s the meat hunting coming out of me.

Hey if you're gonna eat em, my granddad who taught me a thing or two had a rule - never take more than you can eat. Don't crap in your camp. And pick up your trash. Those three have served me pretty well over. the years.
