Braid Line and Swivel/quick snap

Anyone here use braid line and a swivel or a quick snap? If so which one would you prefer?

The reason I ask this, I have been getting heat for using a braid and a swivel.

My setup is straight forward. I use the Lews Mach 2 speed combo, with a 20 pound braid line.

I love it a lot. Now I utilize the occasional crank baits, swim baits, jigs, and what not.

But my passion is Ned Rigs and Twitchin with a frog. Because I have so many choices, I use a swivel to change lure.

So my question here, am I killing the bait action when using a swivel? Will a quick snap be better or should I go directly line to lure?

Thanks for your attention and my bad about the long back story.

Most people just tie directly to the lure, but if your goal is to be able to change lures quickly without re-tying, then I’d use a quick snap.

If you're planning to use a swivel, go for the lowest weight rating possible. The smaller the swivel, the less it will affect ur actions.

I would tie an fc leader to my braid first, and then tie the swivel to the fc leader. It's more abrasion resistant as compared to just braid.

Line to lure is almost always better. But a swivel shouldn’t affect the motion for neds and frogs too much.

I just tie line to lure. Learn a knot and practice tying it. It only takes a couple of seconds longer. I use a loop knot when trying to lures. When connecting braid to leader, I use a 6 turn surgeon's knot. There are better knots to connect to braid but this is the easiest and quickest and I've never had an issue using it

I use these snaps as a terminal between braid and bait (for quick changin' baits) for about 10 years: https://www.cabelas.com/product/No-Knot-Fast-Snaps/701927.uts?slotId=0 Can surely recommend

I tie in barrel swivel between the braided line and a leader, then a tactical angler "clip" on the end of the leader for quick changes. That way, the swivel does it's job without impacting the lure. I trust the clip (shown below) over the snap - think is stronger.

I have used these for decades and only ever had one "fail" on me, and it wasn't a large fish that did it either! I fish saltwater only now, so there's always the concern of fish with sharp teeth which these snaps actually will help defend against with mono leader in clear water. Stained water and night fishing I haywire twist these on 80lb. Malin SS wire. No aggrevation trying to tie knots anymore (which I can't even see at night, and fight me on windy days)!😀 Anyway, JMHO. Probably best for you to try different snaps to see what you like best.
Cheers!

VMC Crankbait Snaps 👍🏻👍🏻

This is the “SNAPS” that I would recommend. Match the snap size to what Crankbait that you are using. This brand of snap is designed for Crankbaits. They can be used for other fishing 🎣Applications ... The only time to use a “SNAP/SWIVEL” is when you are fishing a lure that puts “TWIST” into the fishing line..

PS. Forgot to mention the most important thing to know about snaps. They all will get metal fatigue from bending them to open and to close. Best to change out to a new unused one every so often to avoid a breakage failure. Don't know of any hard and fast rule as to when to do this, but if you've had one on for awhile and have changed lures often, it's time to replace it. I'm guessing, because I've never kept track of this, but after somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-30 lure changes would be a safe rule of thumb. You could "test" this yourself by simply opening and closing one until it breaks to get a more accurate idea while you're armchair fishing this winter! Cheers

I use fluro leaders 100%, with a barrel swivel at the braid end..
I spend some time in the winter making up different combinations of rigs on varying weight leaders, and store them on a neoprene doughnut.

The reason I do that, is that I have hand tremor and there is no way in hell I can tie a knot in a bouncing boat. And the added advantage of quick change.

I've attached a tube of neoprene to my console horizontally, and sink the hook of the just removed lure into it, to temporarily store it, not have it where someone may step on it, while I prepare the new rig and get it out in the water.

A quick snap will alter the lure action -- sometimes not a lot, but almost any alteration is too much.
Try this: a short (maybe 1 foot if you're casting, more if you're trolling) piece of leader tied to the lure with a loop on the other end. Attach the loop to the quick snap. Leave the leader on the lure when you stow it -- ready for next time. Works for me.
