Why is it not so many Spinning Reels with bail "triggers" available anymore?

When you're dealing with bait casting reels, most all of them have had a thumb bar on them since the 50's/60's. On the other hand, while many years ago one could find quality brand spinning reels with a bail trigger, most of them are gone and the better quality spinning reels do not have a "trigger".

I detest spinning reels where I have to manually open the bail when preparing to cast. Backing up the reel handle with a trigger, stops at the correct spot and pulling the trigger opens the bail and puts the line against your finger at the same time.

I've heard of broken bail springs, but hard for me to believe that it became such a problem that most makers no longer offer them. I have a few, and they work great, but never could understand why the lack of brands offering this option anymore.

I worked in the fishing dept at Bass Pro in No. Myrtle Beach when they first opened in 2004/5. We still had some spinning reels available with triggers back then but not so much now.

I've never seen one of those. Sounds like too many moving parts to me. I close my bail by hand so I wouldn't think about opening with a trigger.

I've had a one of those type reels, and never have another one. The one that I had failed rather quickly. The trigger / bail mechanism was what failed.

$30 for the kit! Wow. Didn't know it had that much of a problem on the Penn reel.

Only had one bail spring break on me and that was on a Mitchel reel, I was living in N.J. at the time and they had a factory outlet there then. Went down and bought two bail springs, still have the second one never used, that was over 40 years ago.
Now on the bail flipping closed when casting.
That has only happened when the bail is at the "wrong rotation spot" when casting. I learned to not put the bail in that location on all my reels. Once in a while I mess up and forget. But that is just me.

Bail triggers were a failure after a few trips fishing. Had 1 myself for a while and it eventually failed. And oz,you woke spirit again. This gonna be a good day!!!

Oz, Spirit, have you fished with your bailless reels? I don’t share some people’s love for spinning reels. It’s an interesting alternative.
