RETARDED GRANDPARENTS (This was actually reported by a teacher)

After Christmas, a teacher asked her young pupils how they spent their holiday away from school.

One child wrote the following:

We always used to spend the holidays with Grandma and Grandpa.

They used to live in a big brick house but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Arizona .

Now they live in a tin box and have rocks painted green to look like grass.

They ride around on their bicycles and wear name tags because they don't know who they are anymore.

They go to a building called a wreck center, but they must have got it fixed because it is all okay now, they do exercises there, but they don't do them very well.

There is a swimming pool too, but they all jump up and down in it with hats on.

At their gate, there is a doll house with a little old man sitting in it. He watches all day so nobody can escape.

Sometimes they sneak out, and go cruising in their golf carts.

Nobody there cooks, they just eat out.

And, they eat the same thing every night --- early birds.

Some of the people can't get out past the man in the doll house.

The ones who do get out, bring food back to the wrecked center for pot luck.

My Grandma says that Grandpa worked all his life to earn his retardment and says I should work hard so I can be retarded someday too..

When I earn my retardment, I want to be the man in the doll house.

Then I will let people out, so they can visit their grandchildren.

Ain't it the truth? You work hard your whole life so you can some day stop working and do just the things you enjoy doing and then you get the butt cancer and die. So the best thing you can do in this situation is yp work at something that doesn't seem like work. I was very fortunate in this regard. I served 21 years in the U.S. Navy and learned a trade that I enjoyed and which carried me over into the civilian world. I've enjoyed my profession to the point that I practiced it until I was 71 years old and only retired when my health forced me to slow down. Not the butt cancer fortunately.

Sorry to hear that So27.

It is a shame people work hard for retirement and it escapes them, others do as little as possible and get things handed to them right and left.

Thank you for your Service.

Catch some fish next week.

I'm only 49 yrs old and I'll never be able to retire. I was put on disability 2 yrs ago bc of heart issues. So I guess I don't get to go to the wrecked center . So I'll just go fishing and my grand kids can visit me on the water. Where I won't have green rocks or a person sitting in a doll house. Thank you for the story it was very nice.

It was my pleasure, and thank you. I've had a full time job since my senior year in high school 54 years ago, so I don't know what it's like to not work. I'm not saying I didn't really like my job, I did, but in the back of my mind was this lingering feeling that if I retired I would feel worthless. Old and in the way? Well I haven't worked since last May and I can honestly say that that has not been a problem. I am not officially retired, just out on short-term disability, and if my doctor will allow me, I could return to work. I don't think I want to and I don't think that's going to happen. I'm kinda enjoying this. So I want to get as much of this is as I possibly can before it's time to go.

Really ! I mean, who would even
WANT to work if they could
spend that much more time fishing as often as they could
get out ? Haven't been able to do near as much as I'd like since retiring, but you can bet I'll be making up for it as soon as my current situation improves !

I just woke up one morning and told my wife "that's it, I'm putting in my papers today. I've had it." Four years Navy and 45 years at my old job.
Never looked back.
Seven years now.
A friend of mine from work was retired for about three months then died from a heart attack. You never know.

It's sad, we used to car pool to work.
He was going to move to Utah. He had all of the house plans drawn up.

Me. I really liked my job. Put me in contact with people all over the world and kept me sharp mentally. And the pay was pretty good. I was appreciated and my boss wanted me to keep working. We had an understanding.

How dull it is to pause, to make an end,
To rust unburnish'd, not to shine in use!

A little Tennyson.

Then you truly are one of the fortunate few ! Not that many people find jobs that they really like AND pays well to boot ! Some of my jobs weren't too bad, but didn't pay all that well, while
others which paid better were
the type that made you dread getting up in the morning and couldn't wait for the day to end !

Like I said, the boss and I had an understanding - as long as I didn't mind getting up and coming in he could count on me to be there. And he knew what it took to keep me interested. Worked out well for both of us. And yes, I realize how fortunate I was to be in that position.
