Products like "Line Butter", do they actually work

I am wondering about products like "Line Butter" if they actually work. They claim that it will take the memory out of Mono and FC. I am wondering how it really can do that from an engineering stand point since I believe they are "Non Porous" so how does it really do that. Seems like it might make the exterior more slick and thus help casting distance and with braid which is porous I can see that it can soak in to assist in its use. Or is it something like human nature where when we buy something, then it is hard to admit, "maybe it wasn't a good choice" or "I really don't see any factual improvement"?

I've never used it, so have no opinion.

Mono will absorb it . Think of it as conditioner. Like conditioner you put on your hair to make it less stiff and lay better.

I have used a product called "reel snot" & it worked wonders with line memory. I haven't found it anywhere around here so I bought some bass pro brand. My research showed it was the same product as KVD line conditioner. I used the conditioner on several reels, both baitcasters & spinning reels. The product worked very well but it was necessary to pull line off & spray throughout the spool. I have a couple older abu garcia 1600 size Morrum reels. The spools are small & monofilament line can really take a memory set on those small reels. Conditioner really helps. I don't have that problem with braid but the conditioner slicks up the braid & will give an increase in casting distance. That's my experience with conditioner & I'm satisified.

When I worked for BUS in fishing, when spooling new reels or re-spooling older ones we would give the line a spray with line conditioner every 30 -40 seconds until done and then the outside of the line when finished. Never had a complaint from a customer, used to get quite a few compliments on how supple and memory free their mono was as compared to without the conditioner. Just food for thought!!

If you have never tried a line conditioner you should and you will be amazed at it's performance. I've used both the KVD line cond. and reel eeze and both do exceptionally well. They will not only help take out the stiffness but will help with a slick coating (also spray your guides) that will help you to cast farther and your line will last longer. I've used it for over 10 years and never go on the water without it. So I totally believe.

I just tried some myself. It was amazing how well it performed on my reel. One with and one without. Big difference between the two. Both reels were the same.

Thanx for the info folks. Have reeleeze but havent used it that much. Probably doing it wrong by just spritzing the top layer. Have to give it a second try peeling off and applying. I'll hit those micro waves too. Though I cant imagine why I need more distance. But slick coating them seems good line maintenance.

If the line is softened, what about breaking strength?? Any testing reports??

logic would say that since you remove the brittleness that is where you would have the lose of line strength at least that's the logic that I come up with.

Yes it works.....been out for a long time under different names.
Tom Mann had a product called “tangle free.Blakemore had another called reel and line magic”.You could also spray your guides with it to keep them from filling up With ice in the winter. These products also enable you to cast further because of less line resistance.

Thanks, I can understand surface changes to make slicker, But am not understanding haw it can penetrate/soak in to what I thought was not a porous material to take memory etc out?
