Found at an estate sale about 20 years ago. Yes, they are buttons but who made them and for what? Perhaps a fishing vest? The large ones are exactly the same size as a quarter, the small ones are smaller than a dime. Anyone ever seen ones like this or know who made them.

Welcome, dec, sorry I can't help you identify or give you an idea of where to search. Hopefully, someone will.

I did a quick search on Etsy and Ebay and found fish, but no flys. This does look to me like a "blazer set" of buttons.
I hope someone here can help you figure out the origin or intended use.

They're tie tacks. The larger are for a vest and the smaller are for a tie

Those are special. Never seen them. They are buttons. Tie tacs have a different connection of the back.

Are they silver? Some one liked fly fishing to get some custom buttons for their fishing vest.

Definitely not tie tacks. Look to be Blazer buttons (small on the sleeves, larger for jacket closure). Since there are 4 large instead of 3, I would say a double-breasted jacket. Sweet find... just the kind of thing I look for at yard sales.

Your buttons can be found at vintage buttons.flies.wordpress. It looks like they could be from England.

Now I'm wondering why such things aren't for sale at Gander Mountain, or LL Bean, or others. They are pretty cool.
