Fishing golfer
Hey guys newbie lister here. I’m retired north of Boise. I learned how to fish mostly as a kid in Texas but I never really understood the pleasure of fishing until I learned how to fly fish on the Henry’s Fork in Eastern Idaho. My wife is from Idaho Falls and I’d visit her parents as much as possible to go fishing.
I’m not a snob fly fisherman either I don’t care if I’m fly fishing or in a boat spinning for bass as long as I have a fishing rod in my hand. The problem with fly fishing is you can’t drink a beer while fishing, I have to wait till afterwards! But when summer comes the rivers are high so I migrate to the golf course. Another sport you can drink beer while playing. Isn’t life great!! Anyway I’ll be seeing you all on the forum. I’m retired military (4 years enlisted Air Force 30 years Naval engineer after college) and I’ve just learned euro nymphing and that’s a great way to fish!!!

Welcome, Paulgt3. I was in the AF back in 71-75. Just too much BS for me to make a career out of. Glad you were able to though. Never have gotten to fish Idaho, Montana is as close as I've come. Good to hear from you. Tight lines.
Saw. I kinda half ass did it. 4 years enlisted to get GI Bill. Went up to Chico State. Got my engineering degree then went to China Lake Naval Air Warfare Center as a scientist. I was a civilian. So best of both worlds. But I loved working for weapons development while we were in these desert wars . My son graduated from Cal Chico too now works at the same Navy facility
I could have quit anytime and gone to work for Apple but blowing stuff up is more fun

I was in the USAF from 1983 to 1987. Worked on F-111’s. Our motto was “Warheads on Foreheads”.
Retired now and fishing all I can.

hey Steve-o, That's what a lot of people call me. Love to hunt and fish too. Where you from now?
Thank you guys for your service.
Welcome Paul, thank you for your service. From Alabama Bill
It was my pleasure Bill. My uncle used to take me to air shows all the time as a kid . Working for the military is all I ever wanted to do!! It was an honor
Welcome to the forum Paul. It's not just a job, it's an adventure. Remember those commercials? 21 years active duty Navy. No regrets, but sure glad it's behind me.
Army myself from 87-88. Skull fracture ended my career. I had one week of Ranger school left when it happened. Spent almost a week in a coma. Then watched everyone else graduate and I was the platoon leader. Wasn't meant to be. Thanks to the rest of the other vets! Never been to Idaho but have been called that!! If they have good walleye fishing then I could see myself heading there in the future. Keep your line wet!
Oh man sorry about your Ranger career!! As a civilian I did three projects with our SEALs, 2 at Fallon NV and one with SEALs team one. Our Special Forces guys are second to none. Just awesome people.
While I’m glad I’m fishing and not working, there was something special about going to work near the flight line on a cold desert morning with a cup of coffee and smelling that warm jet exhaust blowing across the tarmac. I really kind of miss that.
I did GPS work when we had to wait for 3 satellites to show up so the new military receivers would get a fix. Boy am I getting old
Hi Paul. I'm in Blackfoot, Id. And served in the AF from 1972 to 76, and then hired on at Hill AFB near Ogden, UT
as a civilian and retired at 53 with 30 years total. I'm 66 now and have a nice fishing boat. Get hold of me this summer when you come to IF, and we will do some trolling and drink a beer. I'm big into ice fishing right now.
Hooyah! Aim High! 68-72 bedpan commando. Now NEFL. Fish both salt and fresh. Chase the little white ball 2! I guide for Heroes on the Water although not as much these days as previously. Y'all can look them up online. Anyway, trained in Texas, Amarillo and Wichita Falls. Spend some time with SAC in Montana before finishing it all up with PACAF in Japan. FISH ON!
Welcome and Thank You for your service Paul. I did my tour with Uncle Sams Misguided Children a looong time ago. Missed Korea by 2 years and Nam by 10. Spent my whole tour at 29 Palms, Ca. and we were still using WWII equipment back then. Web search an: M42 anti aircraft tracked artillery Vehicle and see what we tried to shout unmanned drones down with in the mid '50s. This short story took place in the fall of '57 when we trained 8 sets of twin 40MM cannons on one poor coyote we spotted running across a lava flow ridge in the mojave desert on 29 Palms Marine Base. We never went to look for the remains of that Critter but I still have a chuckle when it runs thru' my mind. But we were still laying down fire when the CO yelled cease fire into all our head phones at the same time. lol. Happy Trails and Tight Lines Paul, Jer
