New Shimano Stradic FL 5000XG, good for Popping? Vs. Daiwa BG4000

Hi, I'd like to get your thoughts on this..

I've used daiwa BG 2500 for my light inshore setup, but I figured I needed to upgrade if I want to do better in micro shorejigging and popping, so im torn between the stradic and BG.

The BG served me well, though I dont like its spool reverse switch and its weight, and got me more wind knots and bustoffs than I used to. Since the new stradic FL features the light materials and spool technology for longer casting, it made me think twice with this. Knowing that this wasnt meant for offshore, this made me reluctant in getting this thinking that if I, one day, would go out light jigging or offshore popping with the reel I'm gonna get.

I would love to get your opinions on both as I do not see any comparison on the internet on both of these reels side by side.

Tldr:

Daiwa BG4000 -tested for popping and offshore applications by others -cheaper -Tank -unwanted spool reverse switch

Stradic FL5000XG -Smoother, longer cast -lighter -line management -if not for its lack of resource for popping and offshore applications/reviews, I would definitely get this

BUY BOTH. YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH FISHING RODS.

While your advice is absolutely on point, we talking reels, not rods. OP, what about your BG 2500 weight did you not like?

WHAT GOOD IS A REEL WITHOUT A ROD? BUY BOTH. OTHERWISE YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A WHOLE LOT OF REELS SITTING AROUND NOT GETTING USED.

Well I like the weight of bg2500, but I imagine bg4000 is double of the 2500, while the stradic Fl 5000 only weighs 300g est, still be 100-200g less than the 4000.

And with this I might add, i'll be using the reel for shorecasting for poppers, microjigs, pencils, etc

I used my stradic for sharks and Ray's from shore. Serious offshore guys run Stella's when popping. You're gonna want a different outfit for offshore anyways.

If you're gonna spend the dough then I'd get a stradic. Long casts and light weight makes a huge difference when you're working your popper. Shimanos warranty is kick ass too. $25 and they'll clean, lube, and replace parts if need be.

What waters will you be fishing ?

STELLA is beyond me. I refuse to spend money on a reel that expensive, as I will be fishing once a week at the most, maybe just even twice a month is often.

Basic plan is inshore microjigs, minnows, pencils and poppers, probably targeting trevs and barras

I see you put your stradic to hell of a fight. Does it flex or bend at the reel arm?

It doesnt flex. The drag on it is butter. I would also suggest the penn battle as well, opposed to the bg. Its a hell of a workhorse.

Sounds like the job for a Saragossa to me.

I fish inshore saltwater In texas with light near shore offshore. I have found the most versatile reel for me is a daiwa 3000. I have a 3000 Fuego and BG. It's light enough to throw lures all day without getting tired. The drag is strong enough to have landed bull reds, 3 ft, sharks and many kingfish.

Thanks for your input. I imagine you're pairing it with 7ft rod? And what line do you use for your bg3000?

You may also consider the Daiwa Ballistic , I’ve got several very lightweight and smooth drags ! Somewhat sealed against salt intrusion as well , I fished them a lot several times a month , 3 yrs now no issues that would sour me on this model !
