I am not one to ever judge someone , I stick to myself and give respect before I expect it back type of guy it’s how I was raised , I was also raised to respect my elders . However yesterday 12/5/19 @ Yankeetown marina about 8:00am I was putting my drain plug in my boat and walking back to my driver seat so I could launch my boat , when two older men in a newer model grey Toyota Tundra and a aluminum flats boat “whipped” in the lot like a bat out of hell & without waiting his turn to launch proceeds to try to turn his boat around in an already small lot that only allows 1 vehicle to properly launch at a time and “skip” me . Here’s where instant karma steps into play . He cut his truck so hard and without room to make the turn Jack-knives his trailer & bust a nice big taillight out / bent his bumper . Then as he heard the loud pop he threw it into drive and ran over the new wooden and rope fence the marina put up to save the grass . THEN had to make a series of what I would call a 20 point turn to straighten his truck out and then launched his boat . While I stood there in compete Amazement staring at him and his buddy they completely avoided all eye contact 100% . So I waited for the driver to return from parking his truck , I approached him at the ramp where I was just about to now finally launch . I explained to him in all my years fishing there I had never seen such a display Of arrogance & ignorance and that I was taught to respect my elders and pass on good etiquette as a sportsman to one another but that he made it hard to do in this situation . And by my calm demeanor and efforts to explain this and put him in check I did just that . I seen it click in his eyes that he made a dumb decision and he apologized I wished him a good day and to “catch a nice one” he proceeded to tell me I am a nice guy as he walked away . I don’t know how him and his buddy day turned out but if your ready for some good numbers check this out ( I caught 24 snook that day ranging 12-21 inches in length , 1 22 inch red , 7 underslot sea trout . And that’s karma . I did keep my red . But last time we went out we released 3 slot reds on a boat full of people just fishing for fun ! And a few keeper trout were released . Just remember take care of our environment and respect one another and we will all see the benefits of it . Happy holidays out there and tight lines !

Boat ramps are a very hard place to do what you did.

My hat is off to you.

You are a good human.

Had that happen 1 time he put his trailer on the rocks, his female partner ask if I could back the trailer in, I did they managed to get the boat out and go.

Sounds like another day at the boat ramp. I agree about respecting elders. I agree about waiting your turn. I agree about everything you typed. I have. Seen similar things here. Most of our boat ramps in Oregon have room for 3 or 4 boats at a time to be going in or out. Nice fish.

I compliment you on your respect. I see more elderly guys being disrespectful on the water and it really blows my mind.

On weekends we see some folks just sitting and watching the boaters launch. Oh the laughs they get watching the antics of folks trying to back trailers and fights over who`s next. Then the inebriated stumble around getting boats back on trailers. See sheriff there breaking up fights too!

In Texas, lake Cisco, I watched a man back his trailer up with an old Caddy and let the trailer go off the concrete ramp. The back of the car went into the water. He got the boat loaded but could not get out since the wheels were off the concrete. He cussed and threw a fit as I came over and offered some help. I guess I should have kept my mouth shut but did not. I told him I had a friend that lived a mile or so from us and He said go and he would pay him to get out. OK, I got Randy and with his four wheel drive and he pulled the guy out. He opened his back door of the car and water and beer cans flowed out. The trunk was full also. The guy could hardly stand up from being drunk and he got into his car and took off in a hurry. Randy had to chase him down to get paid for rescuing him. I should have called the law but was still laughing while watching the old fool make an ass out of himself.
