Never used a fish finder. Only fish a large lake near me from land. Curious but price scares me away on these products. Cheaper alternatives all look like garbage. Thoughts on it?

I have a pro +. It marks fish for sure. I use it mostly for checking depth and structure on open water. I’ve gotten the most use out of it ice fishing. It is awesome to just carry around and pop into any hole while hole hopping to check for depth and fish.

I have also been looking at these and thinking of getting one, feel like it would really help as I fish a lot of man made ponds and small lakes without a lot structure or clear spots to expect fish to gather. Curious how the cheapest option, the “start” works for people as well.

It's great for temp, depth and structure. I have read on the carp pages the gain/sensitivity needs be set rather low compared to the recommended settings. Also, please turn off the fish icons. Lol

I've had a pro+ for nearly two years, it's a handy bit of kit, great for showing depths and it does show fish. I don't think much of the fish icons, I switch them off and turn the sensitivity up, it will show you depths, weed, any underwater structures and the nature of the bottom, hard gravel, soft silt, weed etc. On a new water they are great but once you know your areas I find I use it less and less...until I go somewhere new, then it comes out again👍

I bought a pro+ about a month ago, went out with a friend and he cast right next to it and pulled up a nice black bass. I found one on a eBay store for 170.00. And when it arrived all factory seals were in place. I bought the phone holder so it's mounted on the rod (Amazon) and the orange top, so it lights up at night once you put the app in night mode.
If you can use an old smart phone that doesn't have service. You can still connect to the deeper ball. And by law the phone can still call 911. This way if something happens, no big deal. I bought a cheap rod that is rated for 4oz cast. Put 30lb braided line on it. That's all I use that for for.
